I have to call shenanigans on that one! So, they are stating that they want to be the one box entertainment center, with only the cable or satellite box as a companion, and they're getting rid of the Blu-ray player? How does that make any sense? We may be 4-5 years from a digital download only society (at the least), but we're not there yet. Taking out the Blu-ray player means that owners will still need a media player and, in my opinion, make the Xbox One less appealing on a mass scale.

It makes sense because they don't view the bluray being a major part of people's lives 5 years from now.
I do not use the bluray on the ps3 or x1 and have no plans to ever use it. It is wasted space and resources other than as DRM/install medium. I'd rather have steam style drm (with limited sharing) and a different install medium (could be usb or download).
I suspect a vast % of users of the PS3/4/x1 will only use the bluray to load games/drm for games and that is its only use for them (people like me who don't buy bluray movies ever).
Mass scale is more about price than bluray players. Drop the blu ray and you drop $40 or so off the sku production costs right there.

The major thing with Blue ray...Microsoft pays playstation for it...Ever heard of HD DVD? lol. I love xbox(quote that shit). But getting a xbox 1 is sounding like a 1000$ dollar investment. Ill spare that rant

Two months in and they are leaks about a newer cheaper model Xbox One. Sales must not be up to par. I wonder how retailers would respond to a disc less model
Sony has to be worried about this.
wait for it!! wait for it!!

Come on people you have to laugh a little at MS here.
They goofed up the engineering, the marketing, the pr, the leaks.
It's comical I mean what else can go wrong?
