My wife picked-up BF3 on sale for my son for Christmas. I watched him play a bit and played some of the campaign. It looked like most of the parties for MW3 were full, so I thought I would pop BF3 in and give it a try. It was not pretty, but not awful either. Went 7-8 in my third game of TDM. I was a bit surprised to keep getting knifed from behind. I thought this was supposed to be slower! I found it was more difficult to hit enemies at long range with anything due to recoil, so burst firing seems like a must, but that seems more realistic. I don't like hosing enemies down anyway. I need to better familiarize myself with all the classes. I tried Engineer because that seemed to be the recommendation on the board. I tried Assault and Recon too.
Kagan was kind enough to invite me into a squad, and I got to try Conquest. I felt sort of lost, but I got a kill here and there. I don't have the DLC, so I kept getting separated from Kagan. I really appreciated his patience in trying to get me into games with him, but I kept getting dropped because I didn't have the DLC. I didn't want him to waste too much of his playing time trying to solve my problems, so I went back to MW3 for the rest of the night. It seems pretty obvious that I need the DLC to play in a squad with clannies (BTW how big is the download?).
Overall I liked BF3, and will continue to work at it. I will probably pick-up the DLC soon.
