So who else plays this crack that is known as Minecraft? I started playing at work on Friday and I think I played for about 4 hours. What a fun, calming game. And the fact you can play it right in the browser is awesome so you can play it anywhere!

I just saw this thread and I'm so happy to see someone else plays! I've watched Minecraft Youtube vids for a long time now but never had a decent enough computer to handle Minecraft. Then I finally saved up enough cash for a computer and I quickly bought Minecraft. I love it. It is calming until you turn around and come face to face with a creeper that quickly explodes lol.

Mine was pretty laggy too then I found a video showing some settings to make it run faster. Now it runs great. I love this game. I wish there was a way to post pictures of my house!

I think F2 takes a screenshot and then it goes in your Minecraft folder. Have you joined any servers? I would like to but not sure of any reliable ones.

Where do you find your Minecraft folder? I jumped on one and it looked like a big ol cluster f###. Then someone ran up to me and hit me with what I think was a pork chop.

Awesome home!
Here is mine. I built it in the side of a mountain because it was easy to do for the first night. But it has a few levels, a tree, wheat, pumpkin and watermelon farm. That cobblestone thing jutting out is my enchantment room. I have 2 more houses that I've actually built, just no screenshot yet.

WOW! That's awesome! I just found a second mine shaft I'm about to start going through. Need two more diamonds for an enchantment table. Hopefully I'll find them there.
I can't believe we're the only two on this forum that's playing this. Or atleast admitting it

Yay! I'm no longer alone! Seriously though, Minecraft is awesome. You should see some of the mods people make for it. Good stuff.

If either of you know how to set up a server it would enable us to play in the same world which would be fun!
Some of the mods are so amazing. I've seen them on youtube vids but I want to keep my world original.
Do you guys get lost in the caves almost every time? LOl I try to set up signs like double torches but sometimes it just doesn't work and I get losssst lol

Yup! Pretty much every time! I'll look into setting up a server. That would be really cool.

Let us know when you get it all figured out. I've never played minecraft with other people before, could be fun. As far as caves go, I'm kinda scared of caves. I usually just dig my own shaft so I know there's no monsters.

I found this tutorial on Youtube. For some reason when I try to run Minecraft on my home computer I get an error "Accelerated OpenGL not found" So Im working of fixing that. I might just need a new video card.
I'll give it a shot. If anyone else wants to try feel free. I'm not sure how my computer will handle it as its a few years old but I will try.
My employer would probably frown on setting one up on my work computer.

Caves are so much fun though! When you dig your own mine shaft, don't you usually run into a cave?
I guess running a server isn't super easy. I read that it's recommended to have one computer for the server and one for minecraft. Anyone have a powerful pc just sitting around not being used? lol yeah didn't think so.

you may not need a hefty computer to run minecraft. It is a lot more complicated though i am guessing.

A hefty computer to run minecraft no, but one to run a server is recommended. The better the computer the better the server with less lag.

Ok here is a Minecraft NOOB, first off I don't even have it. Is there a free version out there to see what it is. I found a free browser app for it supposedly but do not know how they or anyone is suppose to get Mine out of it. Also need to know I can type on a computer but that is about all I can do. Kind of slow with the whole PC thing.

It's an older version but it gives you a feel for the basics of Minecraft. If you're interested in buying Minecraft you can do so at www.minecraft.net It costs like $26.00 or $27.00. Once you buy it and download it then you never have to pay anything again. The company, Mojang, released the full version last November but they are still updating the game with new things. Minecraft is referred to as a sandbox game, so don't expect high graphics or anything.
Paul Soares, Jr has a great series on Youtube for Minecraft called "How to Survive and Thrive in Minecraft" You can find his vids here:
He starts with the very basics, like how to survive the first night, how to craft tools, farming, mining, etc.
I hope this helps!

Ha! Hey Outlawgirl, The Paul Soares series was the very first thing watched when I got into Minecraft. I will try out the server thing this weekend and we can give it a shot. If it sucks then we'll move on.
Hey what do you do when you get to the Nether besides collect alot crap you cant get on the real world? I know there is a fortase that can be found but talk about finding a needle in a haystack. Are you suppose to build another portal once your in there?

Slampiece, I hope the server works! I will look for a message from you here if it does. The Nether...I hate it!! lol There are strongholds there that contain blaze spawners and nether wart, both needed if you want to start brewing magic items. I have found a stronghold but I'm not sure how to contain the blaze spawner so I can easily kill them and get blaze rods. Glowstone is nice to have too. You only need one nether portal to get to and from the "real" world but it is very important to build a cobblestone building around the portal. If the ghasts make a direct hit on the portal they will shut it down and then you're stuck until you commit suicide. And cobblestone is the only thing ghasts can't blow up. Also, don't kill the pigmen unless you want all of them attacking you.
u404398, I hope you check Minecraft out and like it!
killface, your voice has changed! No accent even! You are a quick learner with Minecraft, but I would expect nothing less. I didn't know you were so into star trek lol

I have a few older work horses that I might be able to turn into a server. I guess I would need to see the details, not on YouTube. More importantly bandwidth specs. If they are low enough I might be able to slip it into a server at work.
Is the poker version for Android worth a try?

I hate star trek, I wasn't even sure what the enterprise looks like so I got Manic to describe it to me in my half hour lunch break. Was the best I could manage

My desktop is a Dell XPS 200 which means I have to find a special video card to fit. Looks like it will take a little more work to get me there.
If you want to give it a shot, go for it! Im not sure if my CPU will handle it. There is a Wiki link for Minecraft server info that might help.
I have the iPhone app and its pretty cool. Looks just like the computer version. Its not survival mode, just a builder. I dont know if I would pay $7 again but it passes the time.
