to Smoke or not to Smoke.

Does this stuff even work?

Inspired by #:ER's thread about worst load out possible, I think we need to resolve the uselessness of Smoke grenades. I've been triple killed in a cloud of friendly smoke and despite killing dozens of people that are in my smoke screen, and another dozen from within my cloud of blindness I am yet to be rewarded with one credit towards Smoke'em if you got'em - Kill 10 enemies inside your Smoke screen. I swear that IW is busting a gut just thinking about how many of us are running around foolishly blinding ourselves thinking we are under some cover. Your thoughts please.

You know I run smoke 90% of the time, sometimes it works sometimes if doesnt.....

i use it, you just have to use it right, not that my throws are always the best. I find it's more effective as smoke screen than covering a flag or where I'm laying. If you throw it on a flag you asking for a semtex triple. It's most effective at blocking snipers & far off campers

Sniper in the shirt shop on Resistance? Smoke 10 feet from the window will block his view while letting you see who's coming.

Yeah, I've tried several games with the barrett and thermal and still haven't gotten a single kill inside the smoke

Just like Dead Eric siad use it as a screen not something you hide insde. one guy with smoke and one or two with a fly swatter and your golden!

I'm surprised more folks don't equip smoke. Great for capping, obviously. But I like to use it as a concussion nade as well. Rushers stop rushing towards you if only momentarily. Cut off opponents route to the flag while you get into position. Cut off a line of sight to advance to your "spot". Smoke your own flag for the SMAW/C4 triple defend Break a spawn trap. Create chaos. Create a distraction by smoking path 1 and flanking from path 2. You can't have enough smoke in random lobbies but it can be problematic if playing with clannies and the team is holding the line and you're blocking a teammates' line of sight.

I haven't had much luck using smoke to cover my route or to hide when running across open areas. It has been useful when I am using a sniper rifle or the M14 with a thermal scope. Just toss the grenade on a heavily traveled route, lay low, and pick folks off while they stop temporarily while in the smoke cloud.

For team ops, I don't even try it. I use it only when I am playing solo.

I used to run smoke a lot on my standard Dom class. I agree in using it more as a distraction than anything else, or to cause some confusion. I'll throw it down a long hall way so they can't see who's waiting on the other end, or in a window if there are campers to bland them for a second or 2.

It also generally works well on the first spawn flag. lol
