| Last night my system froze right after a game and the disc drive started to make a ticking noise.
Ejected the disc and put it back in and it made a loud clunk (actually two clunks) and it does not read the disc, it does not read any disc.
So today I will be taking it apart to see if it is something simple.
If I am not on for the next few days you know that something needs to be replaced.

| I took the console apart and pulled out the blue ray drive. I cleaned the eye and checked to see if anything obvious was wrong, nothing seen.
When the disc goes in the drive it makes a rythmic straining noise, and then makes two clunks and then nothing. It does not even recognize the disc.
So I ordered a new drive. It will take about a week to get. A little less than 1/2 the price of a new console.
I was tempted to run down to walmart today and buy a new console, but I guess I can wait.
Maybe Walldog will be back by then.

| Sorry, wish I had seen this before. I would have told you that your bd drive is fkd, but you obviously know that now.
Those clunks usually seem to indicate that the mechanism that controls the laser positioning inside the drive is not operational. I've heard the same noises with other drives and never had any success with fixing them after that. Hopefully your new replacement comes soon.
Edit: Also, the bd laser is much more precise, which is why it can read so much more information, but it is also more sensitive because of its precision. |

| Yeah, I wasted a few days thinking it might be fixable. Oh well, at least a new one is on the way.
I read that this seems to happen a lot while playing MW3. But maybe it is because MW3 is just the last disc we are playing (because we play it sooo much) when it is time for it to die.
Wow Walldoggy, what magic did you work to get on tonight?

| Still waiting for the new Blu-Ray drive to arrive.
At least the shakes have subsided.
Cleaned out my garage, twice. Offered to clean the neighbors garage. Oiled all the door hinges in the house, including the cupboards. Detailed my truck. Put down a rug in front of the TV so I wouldn't wear out the carpet pacing back and forth. Caught up on all of my writing. Got most of the Xmas shopping done (and wrapped the presents). Have to quit going to Costco. Looking into getting rid of my Samsung Galaxy II and getting a new Iphone.
Dang, I am spending too much money. I need the blu ray drive to get here!
As I look back, it would have been cheaper for me to have bought a new PS3.

| How long do I get to stay Kamea? I promise to only wear the thong at the beach while you are at work.
Sith, my scooter would take too long to get there. But the Ensure is tempting.
Walldog, are you sure there is room for another body? Did you get your game back?
Thanks guys.

| Bad news.
The camel that was delivering my blu-ray drive died somewhere in Arizona. They are flying in another camel to take its place. But I guess there are immigration problems getting it across the border.
I will keep you updated. Hopefully it will cross Death Valley safely.

| I will send my AZ issued camel to find your dead camel, grab the PS3 and get it to you asap. Just in case the flight in camel doesn't make it either. | |

| Unfortunately, it's just the blu-ray drive that is on the dead camel, not a whole PS3. | |
