| So lately I've noticed a lot of lag in my games and not having any fun...it was getting bad to the point that I was becoming Jsavvy Jr. So I started digging around my settings and realized that somehow my router was reset to default and my PS3 was no longer in a DMZ. I set it back up again and it made a HUGE difference...suckas were dropping much easier than before. I played about 5 games with the Enfield just for fun and went positive every time. Now maybe it was just mental, or maybe I found a real nice lobby, but it really seemed to help. Those of you who haven't done this I highly recommend it. It's pretty easy, just follow the instructions on this forum post: http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-Network/How-to-put-your-PS3-into-a-DMZ/td-p/10655314Just thought I would bring this back, as I know we had a post on the old forum... |

| jsavvy jr.....HAHAHAHA. The DMZ trick never worked for me, my NAT was always moderate until I bought a new router a few weeks ago (it was time, my old router was 6 years old) and now my NAT is open and a 4 bar connection a lot more often. |

| I just got back from vacation and my NAT went from open to moderate. I changed nothing. Perhaps a power outage reset the router? Does anyone know if that is common? I have not had a 4 bar connection all week and it's beginning to irritate me. Also, it seems that now when I'm hosting a party, when I start the match I lose a few people every time. Is this a symptom of the moderate NAT? It really shouldn't be this complicated. I hope MW3 straightens this out, but I'm doubtful. |

| I have a question about this. I have a good grasp of how everything concerning internet, router etc etc works but im curious if this helps someone that already has a decent connection to begin with. My router is top of the line and my internet service is pretty good. My nat has always been nat2 and i host quite a few games so im always 3bars min with 4 most of the time. Also curious if doing this creates problems if im running 2 ps3s off the same router. My neighbor AcesFullof9s runs off mine wireless and im hardwired. Any tech junkies out there that can help me? |

Yeah moderate nat with affect how the party gets into lobbies and will tend to drop people from what ive read/seen. |

| I have no clue on the multiple PS3 issue nixon...I guess if you're not having problems though there may be no need to mess with it.
FBD...the same thing happened to me...not sure why...my router has been goofy lately though...it drops wireless signal all the time, so I have to unplug it to get it to re-set so the kids can connect with the Wii.
Savvy...I'm glad you could see the humor...but seriously I was rage quitting so many games. I don't mind getting killed if it's because I suck and/or somebody else is good...but when it's because of lag I don't stick around... |

| Anyone have a fucking clue about 8002ad23...
just started acting up this afternoon with signing me out every 5-10minutes...my Netgear Router is less then a year old...and I've reset everything...look...I'm a junky, I gotta get my fix.
Everyone in the house is wary...just waiting for me to break things. LOL |

| I've always run my PS3 in a DMZ with Nat2 and I usually have 3 or 4 bar connection, but I still experience lag at times. So I'm not sure if the in game "bar chart" connection system is very accurate. I use the PS3 connection test to see what bandwidth I'm using. What I did find is my router doesn't support IP fragmentation, so the connection test fails through my router. IP fragmentation is when network information packets are broken into smaller portions and I think the idea behind this is to allow players with slower Internet connections to be able to game without to much of a problem. I tried running the Internet cable directly into my PS3 and the connection test was successful and it seems to help with my lag issues and tis moves me to a Nat1. Although I still have lag on some nights. While the configuration of a router could effect your connection or others if you are hosting there are some other areas which could causing the problem. If you are using a DSL service you should be running at the bandwidth you are paying for, if you are paying for 10MB down and 2MB up that is what a speed test should show. But as far as I know if you have cable internet this speed could be efected by the usage in your area. I have a friend who uses cable Internet and his bandwidth fluctuates on a daily basis.
@CrazyNixon7 Even lower end routers run at 100 Mbps and residential internet connections probably aren't going to max out the bandwidth on a router. You mentioned you have high end router so I'm thinking this supports dual band, so it could process the request from 2 PS3's much more efficiently.
@Manic I've got that error when messing with my connection settings, but I've never got this while trying to play. Sorry bro,
Just my 2 cents... |

| God, This makes my head hurt. It is like a foreign language. I have never have been able to get my NAT type to change to open even following the dumbed down directions. I don't host anymore becuase I always end up losing people when we go into games. Is it absolutley necessary to put my router in the DMZ? I have an older wireless router running 802.11g band that seems to be doing the job. Then again maybe it isn't becuase I very, very rarely get four bars. I will attempt putting my router in the DMZ again and use google a little more. If I put my router in the DMZ will I end up resetting my WEP key? Thanks guys. |

My DMZ is through a wired connection as there is a specific port on my router to connection PS3. I don't have any experience setting up a wireless connection to the DMZ. I can say I've been Nat2 through my router with and without the DMZ. I stated using the DMZ becasue I would get kicked in the middle of games.
It sounds like you have stable gameplay without the DMZ, so I don't know if you would see any benefit from the change. |

| There are two ways to achieve an open NAT in Blops, either by putting your PS3 into a DMZ or by keeping it behind your router's firewall and doing some "port forwarding" to allow specific network ports and protocols to communicate to a specific IP inside your network. The former is easier to implement, the latter is just as effective and only opens the ports needed by the game.
And oversimplified discussion of what I did is as follows:
1 - Went into my router and made the internal IP for my PS3 a "Static" one so I could make firewall rules that wouldn't be thwarted by DHCP changes in my network. (ex. 192.168.1.11)
2 - Created a firewall rule (port forwarding rule) opening up inbound traffic for the following ports to the 192.168.1.11 IP:
TCP : 80-81, 443, 5223, 3074
UDP: 2005, 3074, 3075, 3478
3- Went into the PS3's Network Settings and manually set the IP to 192.168.1.11. Speed on the PSN test was 7,500 dn 1,500 up.
4 - Fired up Blops and my NAT was Open. |

| I did all of the above and the Nat was open. Occasionally for whatever reason, it goes back to moderate for a day or 2, then goes back to open. Anyone know why this happens? |

| i'm almost always Open NAT 2, we can join lobbies through me after invites are sent out, I can just back out and have guys join me.
I was messing with my network last night, it's weird. I use Fios' verizon speedtest with my laptop, and i was getting faster speeds wirelessly than wired into my router, which is impossible.
Then i look at the PS3 test ( i know it's crap but the download wasn't much different) and it was around 29 mbps down and 4.5 up.
Not sure why my upload is always SO much slower. Whatever the reason, i'm not sure i'm getting what i paid for. |

| So last night I noticed my NAT was moderate again...I logged onto my router and it was re-set to default again...it was fine earlier in the day. I did some checking on the googles and I think my problem might be that it is overheating. I don't have AC in my place and it's been a rough summer. I'm going to try to elevate it a bit to move more air around it, and also I'm going to hook the Wii up to a wired connection. I believe this time was caused by the kids streaming netflix all day through the wii. So FBD...that is one possible cause. |

| If you are streaming netflix all day maybe the providers is choking your bandwidth? |

| Sorry to bring up an old topic but ive found if you have a decent router, have an open nat and dont have any huge connection issues to start with putting your ps3 in DMZ isnt going to make it better than it already is. A few weeks ago i gave mine a static IP and put it into DMZ hoping to maybe somehow make my connection better than it already was and i actually think it made things way worse. My connection was all over the place and speedtest and pingtest numbers backed up my theory. I put everything back to normal and it was back to the way i was used to. If i had just left things alone i wouldnt have had such a lousy few weeks of crappy games and would have saved myself some frustration. Like they say "If it aint broke then dont try to fix it" |

| Bumping this up for Gorilla5454. Start here with getting your nat to open and see if it still keeps booting you so much. Hope it helps... |

| Going to have to agree with Nixon. I just recently put my gaming router back on and its awesome. Before I had a subpar router and attempted to put it into DMZ and it made it unplayable. So if it works keep it how it is! |

I personally think so and there are quite a few on here that will agree. The really good ones ca be pricey but they eliminate so much hassle and worries. |

Example : Shitty Netgear basic Router with decent Cox Cable internet service . Router on : Nat Strict. Cant join many games can barely team with the clan. Dropped games are common. Savvy rageometer 10. Router off : Nat Open. No problems at all. Host pro all day long. Savvy happymeter 10 My good router : Router on : Nat open. No problems. Host pro all day long. So as you can see yes they may be costly but you're going to spend that money on new controllers due to the rage factor anyways why not use it on a nice piece of technology. Check out newegg for some routers thats where I got mine anyways. Good luck Fran hope you get it worked out. Vegas |
