I've heard this rumor too, but I can't imagine that it's true. There are too many newer titles out there that would take a hit and too many developers that would be pissed off because of it. If the new gen of consoles were backward compatible, I understand that they won't be, then maybe, but not without it.

^^ by this logic, they would/could never release a new console. There are new titles every year/season...

from what i've read xbox WILL be backwards compatible but Playstation will NOT

Okay, I should have been more specific; too many newer "Blockbuster" titles from some of the bigger studios. Microsoft makes money on every new game that's sold and there is still more money out there in larger chunks; it just doesn't seem likely. Again, if it's not backward compatible. I hadn't heard that the XBox would be; if it is that changes things.

In fact if it is backward compatible you will see my name turn blue; especially with a summer release.

Game designers have already begun developing games for the new console. With a rumored price point of $400 it will be much more affordable than previous console releases. When games are released, they will be released on multiple platforms. Do you think Microsoft and Sony would design a platform with no games?

I'm not really certain how your comment pertains to mine, but I think that most have heard that the game designers have been designing for the next gen.

What I was saying is that there are too many newer "Blockbuster" titles that they would end up shorting the life-cycle of if they announced the release of a new console. There are a lot of people who buy games in the summer (i.e. high school and college kids) and so to announce a non-backwards compatible system before then would piss the big studios off and cost MS some real money.

If the new XBox is backwards compatible then that wouldn't be an issue.
