I rented BioShock Infinite this past weekend and played through 90% of it before putting it down. I couldn't stand to play a second more.
I liked the original BioShock - It had an AWESOME "world" to explore and a really cool vibe... gameplay was good, not excellent.
Infinite really disappointed me. The first hour was solid. I really dug the art style and "Columbia". Guns felt good, vigors did too. Elizabeth was a cool AI / gameplay mechanic and I was thankful i didn't have to actually protect her ( i was dreading that ).
Everything turned for me when I realized I was nearing the end and I had been simply sprinting past enemies skipping the fights and had stopped looking for loot or ammo entirely.
This game is repetitive!!!! Short battle... go to "x" location for objective... loot, repeat. Big battle... attempt at plot twist... back to short battle and go here quest. Repeat. All back and forth over the same damn locations or locations that might as well be the same with a different coat of paint.
I stopped wanting to play the game and wanted to just sit back and "see what happens". The story was pretty damn good (although I felt as if i was watching a 1920's version of Fringe at times lol)... the rest was mediocre at best.
So if you're interested but do not want to deal with the so-so gameplay (i recommend you don't waste the time)... here is the whole story in a "cut-scene movie".
My final opinion: They should have worked with Pixar and made a sort of hard core interactive movie instead of this game.
Now go out and rent Tomb Raider because THAT is a game that is absolutely FUN to PLAY! (and it has a decent story too lol)
