I'm seriously considering going this route. Right now I use the TV, and whenever I record or livestream I have cables running all over the damn living room. I have a nice desk sitting in storage right now, bring it back in the apartment and set up a gaming station where I can play and just set the laptop beside it...

I just got this from Best Buy last night:

Asus VE247H

Looks fantastic and keeps me from hogging the living room TV when playing. I has two HDMI inputs, so I was able to add in the laptop as well and run it in dual screen. The internal speakers suck, FWIW (I dodn't even realize it had any until I got it home).

Edited to add: The base is slightly wobbly. It's not unreasonable, just something I noticed setting it up. I'll eventually wall mount it to clear up some desk space.

I am definitely going to switch to minitor but I think I am gonna wait till the XB1 comes out and do a complete overhaul. I just need a way to be able to switch the console from monitor to TV without pulling a lot of cords because I want to be able to use it on my TV as well for the other apps. Do they make some sort of 2 way or something that anyone knows of?

Yes they do have switches, I don't have one but you can find them at monoprice.com pretty reasonable.

I have one of the $70 monoprice 4x2 switches and it has problems handshaking the HDMI signals. I sometime have to unplug/plug cables in to get the signal to work so beware!

BD had a really good one he found when he mocked me for buying mine. I'll see if I can get him to grace us with his wealth of knowledge and a link. Razz

I have the same one as you Slam and mine has no problems like that. Where I have a problem now and then is my convertor and I have to unplug and plug it in like you said.

You know what, I think that's where I have my problem too is at the converter for the PS3. I ended up unplugging it all together because I got tired of messing with it all the time.

I'm realizing my Sony receiver that passes HDMI from my Xbox to TV is likely another delay factor. It gives me great 5.1 with speakers all around, but if it gets me killed more often, I may drop it.. but then what's the way to go?

Monitor with built-in speakers??
yikes HUGE no no

the console should be direct connected to the TV - depending on the receiver (especially older ones) there can be HUGE delay introduced I've seen it first hand

and yes it is likely you'll see "slight" improvement using a monitor vs a TV reasons being 1) most monitors unlike TVs do not post process the signal 2) refresh rates typically higher 3) pixel pitch typically smaller (better sharpness) and 4) its smaller!  I play on a 73" Mitsubishi and when I went to my nephew's house and played on their 27" LCD I noticed right away I was spotting ppl quicker (because my eyes didn't have to traverse 3x the screen lol)

the lcd missiler / winners pointed out is a great choice the price really ramps up exponentially and the quality differences are minuscule

I personally like the ASUS VG248QE $250 shipped 24" http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-vg248qe or the 27" with slightly less brightness and 1ms more response http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-ve278h or http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-ve278q

I'm currently playing on a 42" HD TV and I've also been thinking about switching to a monitor (probably 23-24"). I've had good luck with ASUS products in the past and their 1ms monitors have received great reviews all over the web.

As for the question that Baller asked about inputs, some of the ASUS monitors have two HDMI inputs (plus DVI and VGA FWIW). You can switch between HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 through the monitor's menu similar to the process on a TV with multiple HDMI inputs.

My Christmas list keeps getting longer and longer. Smile

I've been using the Asus VE247H since the day I got it with noticeable improvement. Also bypassed the Sony stereo when I game and took Winners advice of changing the XBOX output from 1080p to 720p for less image processing that's not needed. No XBOX games are 1080p which makes the rendering and processing unneeded.

When the difference between a good and bad game is 10s of ms, I want to cut any potential for delay. I'm even a bit skeptical of delay HDMI switches might cause - however small it may be. The reason is in normal TV viewing, HDMI switches can delay the picture and sound by some amount and the movie viewer won't notice it as long as audio and video are in sync. To a fast paced online game where quick draw and bullet travel time needs to be as low as possible, an HDMI delay is noticed in more lost gun fights, unfortunately internet lag is the largest, fluctuating factor of all.

I bought the BenQ 24" 1080p Major league Gaming Console Monitor with 2 ms Response Time (GL2450HM) in March. Big difference switching from TV over to a Monitor. They sell even better ones than the one I bought the XL series.

Well I got my monitor saturday morning. So far so good just need to buy a nice comfy chair. As far as my gameplay either I had a nice stretch of games or the monitor improved my gameplay alot. My kd was 1.10 game #1 and when I stopped last night my kd is 1.13. Just playing deathmatch solo. Including a game on Studio which I joined 1 minute in and ended up 33-3 running uav, hunta killa, and hellstorm. Was on a 22 kill streak when it ended. So needless to say I don't see myself going back to my big screen.

Well the wife and I don't exchange Xmas gifts we just buy something for my selves. This year she got skies and I bought a new gaming setup. I bought a BenQ MLG monitor anda gaming desk with a chair. All bought off of Amazon. Get home from work Wed. and my front door looked like a wear house. My wife and daughter say "dad, your nerd stuff is here". So I put everything together, took alittle bit getting used to going from a 47inch tv to a 24 monitor but I can tell my game has gotten better. Screen reacts faster and I can turn on bad guys faster. Loving it so far, if some of you guys are thinking about switching to a monitor, do it! You'll be glad you did.

Order my son a 24" MLG series one with 1ms lag response time for his new gaming computer. I will have to try it out once in awhile.
