Lag compensation does exist?!?!

The times I lag the worst are the times I am host.

Agreed IDREF and it's much harder to tell when you are picked for host too. Last weekend I did some experimenting. I was playing matches doing well and then in the next game with the same group, I'd all of a sudden do brutal. I'd leave the match and sure enough I'd see that looking for host screen every time meaning of course I was the host.

Had that happen 3 or 4 times so for whatever reason I don't think I *ever* get the "Host Pro" like in Black Ops, now it's just a big disadvantage at least in my experience, to be the host.

The only time I don't lag is when I'm in the lobby.

I did a test last night and ran netflix in the other room while i played a few FFA's. I did very well in them but I can't tell if it was the competition or if my connection was actually acting better. I'll try again tonight on modes I play more frequently.

FFA only has 8 people so it tends to be less laggy anyway. I wish I could throttle my dl speeds like Jerry does, apparently that helps. I'm thinking that once my introductory offer expires I will go to a very 'light' internet to see if that helps.

Plus when you run a FFA solo your ping is likely to be in the 50-75 range.
Thats a huge difference compared to 100-150 in party play

I watch the games it's trying to put me into and if it hits 100ms ping, I back out and try again.

Anyone else feel the lag comp has gotten worse? The past couple days it's been almost unplayable, and I've even noticed that the input from the sticks is delayed. It's most noticeable when looking (right stick) left to right really fast. Like if I look left then look to the right extreme, it'll look left for a half second then move right. What's weird is that my bullets seem to fire ok.

Well I live in the boonies and wireless is the only option available for an ISP. My pings on a good day seldom go sub 100ms when I'm searching for games in MW3 I'm ALWAYS in the 150+ lobbies.

I can tell you the moment I played MW3 it was better for me than BLOPS. Of course anyone with a epic connection isn't going to like compensation because that means they get slower. For us with shit connections we only have room for improvement.

My k/d has doubled in mw vs blops its THAT big of difference for me. Every single killcam in blops I would have never fired a shot when on my screen I was half or 3/4 thru a magazine.

Those moments are few and far between now in mw3.

It isnt worse for me. Same old story. Last night I had a game were I was getting hitmarkers with semtex at their feet, 4 blasts close range with the striker; all resulting in my death. Next match I'm dropping them with two hitmarkers and calling in preds every 45 seconds (until they stop playing DOM and start camping). Same old story.

Well keep in mind regarding hit markers it ALWAYS takes fewer shots to kill if hit ABOVE the waist. I have a terrible habit of aiming right at the crotch LOL so you'll need more hits to kill. When I catch myself doing this and adjust to hit chest or even start aiming for the head I always do better.

I used to talk shit whenever I'd see a host migration... now I just sympathize.

I told myself I'd try leveling up the Spas this prestige... I played through about half a game last night and went back to the striker which still needed 4 shots at close range at times. I'd flank behind someone ADS, shoot, and just get a hit marker. They'd kill me before I could put a second shot in. Even the MK14 would need 4-5 shots mid-range.

I've found myself camping a lot more too. Definitely not my style of gameplay.

IW is punishing us if we work and get money to pay for a good connection and they reward the free loading kids that are using mommy's connection or their neighbors connection?

Is this correct or am I misunderstanding the conversation?

If this is so, why are they catering to the children? Most of them are not old enough to even buy the game by themselves.

We are the ones with the money! Cater to us!!!

The game needs to be synchronized, it isn't in "real-time". Bullets take time to upload and download. The faster connections are throttled, or the slower connections enhanced with a time benefit, so the playing field is even, in theory. Sometimes the test that is performed on every lobby members connection yields incorrect results so a player can end up with a huge benefit or handicap. This is why you can be shooting first and not even see it in the killcam. Or you are killed with one bullet. To be fair occasionally I do get a little benefit, but mostly it goes the other way as I have a good webtubes (currently downloading @ 5.6MB/s. I can have 4.4GB in 30 minutes).

I've taken to running silenced weapons when I have a bad lag-comp, it buys me more time.

Well Canis the theory behind it is to remove the gross host advantage like in blops. Also it helps against those turds who try to use lag switches. Their idea was an attempt to level the playing field and simulate everyone's connection to be similar.

Obviously if you pay for a ridiculous connection like FIOS you're going to be pissed. And when you're at the mercy of shit ass infrastructure and asshole cable companies that won't expand their territory [like me ] we dance in the streets in our rainbow thong'd underwear and unicorn helmets. err wait wut

Does this have anything at all to do with mid-match correction? So many times we start out crushing and then when the score gets lopsided, you suddenly can't kill anyone and die from 1 bullet. What the hell is that crap.

I think the mid match changes we notice are due to someone leaving and another player joining. After the new guy joins the room the comp is reconfigured..

I to have seen alot of games change feel mid game.. For the better and worse..
This is probably the most inconsistant game I have ever played.

This isnt anything new. I remember playing Halo3 when Bungie introduced a lag comp(or at least something very similar to it). After they did that it was possible for 2 players to start shooting each other then once they were close both melee and then kill each other.

I believe if they would host the game on their servers located throughout the U.S., well I guess the world, and everyone in a match connected to the same server it would take care of a lot of this problem.

I have mentioned this before, even if they allowed us to rent/lease their servers they could control hacking better and have better connections for us. They would maintain the servers and could easily monitor hackers/moders.

Going back to the lag; I noticed lately that shooting down aircraft is weird. It takes longer to lock-on, it takes a couple of seconds after I pull the trigger for the stinger to release (I have to keep tapping the trigger) and then after I shoot down the aircraft the animation takes a while.

It is so bad that I have wondered if someone was using a lag switch.

With the stinger I have noticed that if you try to fire to soon it takes longer to lock on..
Let it lock on before pulling the trigger. This may be what you are seeing..
Sometimes I get antsy and try to fire to soon and repeatedly smash the trigger to no avail.

Could it be that the lag comp is so screwy that the aircraft isn't where it appears to be, so the reticle is not aimed at anything according to the host? Can't lock on if it's really somewhere else...

Also can't lock on through trees sometimes, but you can lock on through things that will detonate your rocket before it hits the target Good times.
