New Ipad

So... I think I'm going to get one. What do you guys think of the new one?

Honestly I'd wait until the official iPad 3 comes out. Looking over it I'd say of course I want the damn thing now but an upgrade from my iPad 2 for better resolution and dictation just doesn't fully sell me.

We have iPad 2s and use them a lot. Wait until the iPad 3 comes out then buy the iPad 2...I'm sure they'll slash the prices drastically.

The iPhone 4 is what, $99 now that the 4s is out? Same phone really. And the 4s uses 10x more data...just so you know...

iPad2 already down to $100 in price. Can get them even cheaper. Happy with the ipad2 and iphone 4s (Sprint unlimited data so I whore it up). No need to rush for the ipad 3 in my opinion.

Ipad3 is 4G though. so if you use the mobile connectivity a lot then you might want it over the 3G ipad2

The fact that they didn't name this Ipad suggests that they may stop naming them with numbers, like the Ipod, Macbooks, etc. They don't have a 2,3, 4s or whatever after it. I think with the uproar over the 4s vs the 5, they may be doing away with that where they can and going forward it will just be Ipad.

That said, since I don't have an Ipad 2, I will be getting the Ipad 3. The kids really like watching stuff on our iphones, so the ipad will hopefully take some of that time. Plus, with the 4G, the load times will be shorter hopefully, taking away the screams that the phone is broken. lol

If the little ones will be handling it make sure you get a protective case. I have an Ipad2 for work and the kids love it. I have been using a leather portfolio type case. My screen started cracking (of course everyone denies dropping it). I have a replacement on the way and I am getting a protective case that I can slide it into for the weekends and nights, but still use by portfolio one for the office...

Hey I know this is widely controversial, but you may just want to hold off on getting that IPAD and reconsidering the wifi in your house. My wife works in public health and made me rip all the radio frequency technology out of our house. I thought she was crazy so I started reading the research to challenge her to get my Wifi and cordless phones back. Being an IT guy I liked my toys. Unfortunately it's lead me into one of those "yes dear, you were right again" conversations.

I am definitely not a skeptic about these sort of things, but it seems that a lot of this is semi unfounded. I skimmed through some of the articles and I did not see any sizable study that showed the long term effects. Also I would like to have known the other factors that determined that it as Wifi that declared radio frequency or wifi to cause the issues.

Since Radio frequencies are everywhere whether we have the pieces of equipment or not, it is kind of silly to get rid of equipment. and Wifi has been around for so long, that the small amount of infertility it may cause, can also be attributed to so many other things than just wifi.

Again this is just my 2 cents when it comes to proving or disproving, but remember when they said cellphones caused cancer? They also proved wearing a watch did too, eating burnt toast produced carcinogens as well. Everything can be attributed to getting cancer.


As for the IPAD, if you like locked down devices that you are told how to use them, by all means spend upwards of $800 on a piece of equipment that is not as much innovative than the iphone 4s. Oh, wait...the iphone 4s is more innovative, it has SIRI. nevermind.

I wouldn't buy the new iPad until I watched this in-depth review.

I will first apologize for following up on a tangent rather that contributing to a discussion on Ipads.
Second, if you are unfamiliar with Ted Talks, This is a good one to watch, if only a little long, on critical thinking WRT scientific claims.

EM radiation is EVERYWHERE and unavoidable. I did not read the articles, but the health effects of EM radiation have been studied quite rigorously. Living directly below a high voltage transmission line may not be advisable if avoidable, but I'm pretty sure my router and phones have a negligible effect on my health. Out-of-the-park claims should be supported by mounds of repeatable evidence. Unfortunately, fear is all too often the driver of belief/disbelief, and what should we fear more than an invisible assault on our health?

It is through my work. It's really $150 with $100 credit on the account and I am tied to a 2 year data plan at $20/month for 500MB. Not great but not bad considering these things run $400 up here.

Bumping this topic as I am in the market for a tablet for the house. The iPad is a bit pricey so I was wondering who has a non-iPad tablet that they would recommend? Andriod? Sony?

I've been using the Samsung for a bit now and it does what I want just fine. No problems. Apparently it's pretty easy to unlock but I have not gone there yet. Good unit, and I hear there are more apps for android.
