Another Topic About.... Connections Of Course!!

Ok, I have pretty much hit a point where I am not sure I can take it anymore...

Is there ANYTHING I can do about connection sans playing random local matches?

I know I am not the best player out there but I feel there is no way I am THIS far behind the enemy when it comes to 1 on 1 confrontations... this shows up more often when I play with Savvy (no offense and it might be others in the party as well) as he is the host of about 90% of my games...

Pretty much what is happening is I round a corner, see someone, but before I can even draw my gun, I am dead... or I see someone I start firing, hit nothing but air, die, watch killcam and I am not even shooting

My connection in these games is ALWAYS 3 bars, advice?

Look...You know that I play on the UK servers most of the time and more times then not with a 2 bar connection and I usually break even. So what's that mystery about, Sir Kyle?

Change up your games and compensate...

Is you connection wired or wireless? I have the same problem a lot of times with a 4 bar connection. The lag compensation is what really gets me as us with 4 bars playing with others that have slower connections and they slow are good connection to be at the level of the person with the poor connection. Usually that person with the poor connection always gets the drop on me. This seems to have gotten worse for me the last time they messed with the lag comp.
As far as bettering your connection, if wireless go wired. Port foward or DMZ your console through the router interface. Thats about all you can do.

Lag Compensation. It is very noticeable (terrible even) in MW3 vs. other CODS (i.e. Black Ops) although all have lag comp to try to level the lobbies. There is no way around it and it is purely based on the host and geographical locations of the players in the lobby. My understanding is that IW\Sledgehammer put out a patch that changed the matchmaking recently in an attempt to help with this issue (obviously not a total help with Parties) for the xBox. Does anyone know about this and whether or not they released the patch for the PS3 as well?

To MANICs point you may just have to adjust your game play. I talked to a buddy of mine about upgrading my FIOS speed and he said that increasing bandwidth would only help if the household is using several connections at once which we do not most times when I am playing. So basically it is a live with it type deal as far as I understand it.

There are tons of videos detailing the MW3 lag comp issues on Youtube or to see the impact first hand, play in a LAN game and then go to a pub match....will be night and day (of course).

Savvy is in AZ. You are in CT. The only way you could be further from him is if you lived in Bangor Maine with Stephen King. You are like 2400 miles apart (you and Savvy, not you and Stephen King).

Your connection also has to go through OK. I am not sure if they even have internet in OK. It is likely your connection has to go around this state, which can add more delay.

Playing with players in Cuba is closer for you at 1550 or so (apparently you cant calculate exact distance to Cuba with google map). They don’t have internet just like OK…

Peer to peer is not a level playing field by any stretch of the imagination I think the lack of dedicated servers is more of a problem than anything else. Until they make COD a dedicated server game there will always be this issue of lag.

I reckon lag is just a word readily used for slow reactions and old age.we are all in the same boat just some must be a tad slower than others

When the lag gets you down, play HC modes with a T95 and a baby monitor. It's cheating really.

I do notice the connections are cruddier when we are all spread out across the country. I play with WC guys too and I think it does make a difference, but it's a tax I'm willing to pay for winning. (Most of the time)

Manic, I dont know what you mean by change up the game... what can you do aside from sit in a corner with assasin and blind eye and pick off guys running by... and what do you mean what a surprise? When have I complained about this publicly?

My "give up" game last night was on Mission where I was in my usual spot defending the B flag from guys coming up the hill from A, and EVERYTIME someone rounded that corner, they shot and killed me before I could even get a shot off... thats as campy as I get in this game and I still couldnt get a shot off...

I did finish the game btw but then signed off after out of frustration

Hey now, I take offense to that. I have 50 down/10 up in a city of 15,000 IN small town Oklahoma. And, FWIW, anytime I play with savvy and he is host I have great games. So poop on you.

Hey kjc, I'll give you a shoulder to cry on. Manic only pretends to have them.

What has worked for me to help, but not totally ameliorate the comp is this:

1) Take your PS3 OUT OF DMZ. Wired connection is a must, the shorter the better.
2) Put a controlled amount of traffic on your upload and download to the tune of about 30% of your bandwidth.
3) Avoid certain clan members if you consistently have crap games with them. I'll do this if I am getting frustrated, but sometimes I'll just remember why I'm dropping so easy and just go with it.

1&2 have helped me alot. The band width limiting works so well that I can tell when I've finished the torrent I'm grabbing. BTW I have a 50/5 so I always get lag comped.

I think you need a lag buster setup !! When I get lag comped I run mp7 with red dot SOH pro,QD pro,SA pro that's lag buster 1. PP90M1 i use the same perks as above thats lag buster 2. My new found joy is the Wig splitter PM9 same setup as above . As for my secondary's I run akimbo FMG 9's on all my lag buster classes and I use kick on PM9 and PP90 and range or kick on the MP7.

Perhaps I can move my router and install a wireless card (I have one of those USB ones) on my desktop computer that is currently wired in the office...

The thing is I dont WANT to avoid playing with people... that defeats the purpose of being in a clan IMO

I have been hip firing more and more lately and it does help somewhat as its saves time from ADS and when you are behind and they ADS you can sometimes win those battles. Assasin and portable radar also help to get the upper hand. Not fixes but as Manic said compensation, change up your game a little.

Assassin on every class except 1. That one is Hardline, and I only use it on Fallen, Bakaara, Village and Mission where it's very easy to shoot down UAVs for the free KS builders.

Due to the addition of the Support KS, there is WAY more UAV spam than in previous titles. Assassin is a must. And a Supressor is a big help too. Range cancels out the distance loss.

Kyle I have games like this all the time but usually I'm the host....sure I bitch and moan but tbh the good games out weigh the bad so I'll just live with it...plus I love playing with you guys....when my connection is like this I usually flank and take them from behind
