| If we are sticking to the FPS genre, I was once a "Material Defender" (Descent). I was also Forsaken. First console we had at home was a Heathkit GD-1380 my Dad built in the mid-70s that you could choose between pong, target shooting, and a few others. http://www.pong-story.com/heathkit.htm Or is that the really old guys test? |

Yup. I remember running through the forests and yards with wooden rifles yelling "Gotcha Shawn!". Count to 30 for a re-spawn. Come to think of it, even 30 years ago there was some spawn trapping on occasion. |

| Don't forget the old dirt clod fights. We would go out to the field near where I lived and start flinging dirt clods playing 'King of the Hill.' We always started out lobbing the clods but, by the end, we were throwing to cause damage and tackling each other off of the mound. Eventually someone would be harmed and call foul by running home to tell his mom. There were no lawsuits, but there was plenty of getting yelled at by all moms involved.
As far as I can remember, there were no eyes or limbs lost in the battles; but the boy who went home to mommy lost respect. At least for a few days or so, until the next Battle Royal. | |
