| Ok read it on my phone lol... this is very cool! And i hope it's everything we've all been asking for for years. Let's all join hands a pray that it delivers haha.
Now i did notice not one place calls out dedicated servers for COD Ghosts on Xbox One as any sort of exclusive deal etc... I expect Sony will have some similar dedicated server news when their conference begins later today.
They really can't afford to drop the ball now while they're ahead. I might have to re-think my decision if Xbox dominates the online games arena with all dedicated servers while Sony relies on P2P... but again, i can't see that happening ***crosses fingers***.

I'll tell you one thing... if there are no dedicated servers for Ghosts on the PS4 i'll be fucking pissed!!! (there will have to be though)

| From http://www.charlieintel.com/2013/08/20/call-of-duty-ghosts-will-have-dedicated-servers-on-xbox-one/Original Link text: Infinity Ward and Microsoft have just announced that Call of Duty: Ghosts will have Dedicated Servers on the Xbox One. Ghosts will be using the new cloud feature on Xbox One to power the servers.
In today’s Xbox Showcase at gamescom, Mark Rubin, Executive Producer at Infinity Ward, took to the stage to announce “Call of Duty: Ghosts” on Xbox One will use Xbox Live Cloud hosting to provide dedicated servers for multiplayer matches, ensuring the best multiplayer experience will be on Xbox One. And, gamers will get all downloadable content for “Call of Duty: Ghosts” first on Xbox One and Xbox 360.

| ^^^Sony won't have "M$ Azure hosted "cloud" dedicated servers"... but they might also have dedicated servers for Ghosts. I'm sure they'll announce the dedicated servers as well as an October release date in a few hours (i hope). | |

| Why did they wait so last minute to announce this? With Ghosts for XB1 releasing in November, the software should be close to production stamping/burning by now.
This kind of change (P2P -> DS) requires at least a SW change to the matchmaking/server GUI menus and displays, messages, etc.
Are they still changing and tweaking Ghosts matchmaking/menus code? Or was this always the plan and they're playing their last hand?

| They really haven't waited to announce this.
They said this back in may and again in june and again articles could be found saying all xbox one multiplayer games will use the cloud to host games and do even more than that.
They just never said, specifically, that it would include Call of Duty. But, they did say that EVERY game will be on servers and no more P2P on the xbox one.
BTW, Microsoft has over 1,000,000 servers available to them.
The only two companies that have anything around that number that I'm aware of are Google (with more) and Amazon (with less). No other company I'm away of has data centers with server numbers anywhere close to what MS has in their pocket.
For instance, it is my understanding that Gaikaka had about 30,000 servers in their system that are now available to Sony (plus any they added since then).
MS has dedicated 300,000 servers to the xbox live system at launch. An unbelievable number really.
People had been wondering why in the world MS had been building all these servers they don't currently need.........I think we know why now. |

| Thing we have to understand about servers... there are a lot of parameters that matter. Jonny could have (100) 125 mhz android servers while Bob could have (10) quad i7 cpu'd 2TB memory'd servers.... or Jonny's 100 servers are split into 4 locations... 3 domestic one in the UK... while Bobs 10 banks are strategically centered around the world driven by bandwith yada yada yada... We can't believe either companies marketing speak when it comes to stuff like the implication on just a number of total owned servers.
And as far as the One presentation stating 300,000 servers... Jonathan Blow claims (simple google will return a bunch of articles from the blow hard (crappy pun intended)) that M$'s server information was a flat out lie... who knows... or cares lol as long as the big titles play great online... we win.

| MS has the servers.
Or, they announced that they now have over 1,000,000 servers last month......to little publicity.
This was not an Xbox One announcment but a "Microsoft crosses new threshold announcement".
The Titanfall dev explained it pretty well. MS has built 100's of thousands of servers to create economies of scale so that it can then offer cheaply priced servers to those it wishes to do so.
There are only two other companies with the infrastructure built with similar gross numbers. You are right about the capabilities of the servers......and MS has spent a lot of time yacking about how powerful and capable they are.
We are just going to have to wait and see to be honest. I just wouldn't assume that Sony can just wave a wand and then offer the same thing (maybe they can). I think they will pick and choose their spots (games). |

| Azure wasn't built for Xbox One. It was built for enterprise services like Google & Amazon were which Xbox will use. They aren't crossing any threshold that hasn't already been crossed because dedicated servers are nothing new. What they were able to achieve with this it that they made dedicated servers significantly more affordable and more manageable.
This is a very good thing for gamers. You get the best setup possible for MP games and it forces the competition to do something in response. You saw MS change everything about their system to try and counter Sony, now the ball is in Sony's court to do something. I want both of these companies to beat the shit out of each other as much as possible and make it better for all of us.
The only question I have is that since MS has so many servers why are they only using dedicated servers for CoD on the 720? I know technology.....yet Respawn will have dedicated servers on the 360. Just something to think about.

| I agree nuke.
The titanfall guy summed up what MS has done for the devs. Basically, low cost servers/subsidized servers.
I expect Ghosts will get DS's on the PS4. Even if Sony has to eat the costs on that title themselves.
This is great news though. The rumors are apparently true that there will be dedicated servers for all xbone mp games, even Call of Duty which many of us thought would never give in and pay for servers.
Also a nice move today to announce a free game with every launch edition xbox. FIFA 14. I don't play it but it appears MS wants more of the European/Latin markets. |

| Every launch edition in Europe. No word on the rest of the world at the moment. Good call given the price point in those markets and would be even better in the US to bring value to the current price tag.
Is it just me or is this company doing a hell of a lot better since Don Mattrick left?

| The dedicated servers will only be on Xbox One and Xbox 360 (when the new fall dash comes out) due to the 300,000 Xbox Live Cloud servers they are bringing online in the fall. Sony has nowhere near the infrastructure for that mainly due to the free-to-play multiplayer for the past 10 years. Xbox also announced Kinect 2.0 is not required to use the Xbox One, so maybe they will offer a bundle without it coming up which would lower the cost to $399. We'll see though. Btw the Blitz mode on Ghosts looks super cool, I'm looking forward to playing clan v clan with all you guys! |
