Buying a 32" specifically for gaming. Should I worry about 60Hz vs. 120Hz. I have decided I am only going with 720p. Am I making the right decision?

I just bought a sony 32" with 720 P and 60 hz refresh (wally world special). Compared to when i played on my 48" main tv running at 120 hz and 1080P I can't really tell a difference. I loved playing football on that thing but needless to say the wife didn't. Soooo i upgraded the man cave. I think you'll be fine as long as you stay in the 20 to 30's inch for 60 hz. I do not notice any ghosting so far.

I heard a while back that converting a computer monitor was the way to go. Untill I come out a winner in the man cave argument will keep on playing on the big screen in the living room.

not sure for gaming only but al around my 60 hz SONY is not great for anything other than gaming...the motion blur is not great for sports....and really it was good for movies but then again it was only 1 movie but it had everything from slow to fast pased crazy... iI wouldn't settle for anything less than 120 hz but if your going that far might as well look for a 240 hz.....at least in an LCD

MW3 is in 1080p right? I have been using a 1080p 32" 60hz samsung lately and need to be around 4' away. It's working fine but again, plasma is gonna be much smoother.

If you can go to 240 hz, then I would definately make the jump. It is amazing the difference when I go from playing downstairs to upstairs on the 240 hz.

It is like when you have taken a week off of cod and try to get your sea legs back.

In my opinion you want the highest refresh rate for watching quick moving images as in video games and sporting events. I would also recommend going for the 1080p if its in the budget. I'll be in the market for a new TV in the next year and I'll stick with plasma for the 600Hz.

Short answer is NO!. You have a good size picked out. Size isn't as important as Hz and pixel. 32" is a good size for gaming in a small room or if you sit close to the TV. By keeping the size to a 32" which is common you will be able to keep the price down. The refresh rate is very important for the moving picture portion. This is very obvious when watching sports or a high action game. I wouldn't recommend going less than 1080p as the clarity is extremely noticable between a 720 and 1080 when side by side. I prefer the plasma due to the refresh rates and color, but LCD/LED have really advanced. The price difference between a 720 and 1080 is usualy not much and is worth the increased investment in my opinion.

N8 is correct, it doesn't matter really what your TV can do, it’s more important to match the TV to the source device. Your TV will always display its native format, always. When you see abnormalities on you TV, it’s cause by either poor source and/or poor signal processing. If the source input to the TV is not native it will try to convert it to native format. Most TV’s in the lower price ranges have poor signal converters. The nice thing about the PS3 is the ability to set output to match the TV.

I just bought a 32" for my son for $250 at best buy. I think that its a 60hz LCD. Mine is a 600hz 42" plasma.

My wife just picked me up a 50" 1080plasma.(smoking deal $500 at sears).I can't wait to try it out!! It is much smaller than the TV I play on now, I'm hoping it will improve my game some...
This is pertinent because.....I spent the last few weeks researching TVs from what I saw .....
I would definately look at 120Hz and up. refresh rate is important!! On a 32" you can get away with a 720 and not see a huge difference. Once you get into the 40" + the difference to 1080 is night and day. 720 screens look like a pixel is missing in between each pixel (on 40-50") This is not as noticable on <30" tv's but if you sit close you will be able to notice this effect. It diminishes the further you are from it but I imagine you'll be seated 4-6' from it, not 10-15'

Whatever you get, don't for get to adjust your setting for optimal performance. i use the site below for a baseline and tweak to my preference from there. The right setting can make a big difference.

Others are certainly more knowledgeable than myself regarding high-end electronics, so please correct me if I'm wrong...but the XBox 360 doesn't feed a 120 hz signal, nor does cable or satellite TV. PCs may deliver a refresh rate over 60hz, but I don't know if any other consumer electronics do. I was intending to upgrade to 120hz for watching football but heard/read from numerous sources that unless one is anticipating the next tech upgrade, paying for 120hz is like setting fire to cash. You can't utilize it, and if you do get 120 frames/sec it's a figment of interpolation. That is, the set will create an in-between frame based on the previous and forthcoming actual frames. This takes processing and time. Read: LAG!

With that said, a set with 120hz/240hz probably has other goodies and technology that will improve your gaming experience. I'd definitely go with 1080p as this will provide an observable difference. It may help you see that window camper's protruding gun barrel a little sooner...

Personally, I think that a value that you should be paying attention to more than the refresh rate is the response time. To my eyes, the difference between a 8ms and 5ms TV is noticeable when changing channels and with ghosting, etc. the lower the number the better.

Second, I'd look at the contrast ratio... in this case the higher the number the better. Just my two cents.
