I am typing this slowly because I know my internet doesn't UP/Down quickly

Check out how great Frontier broadband is! This is the top of the line package as well; so glad I'm spending $70 a month on internet that is comparable to my 56.6k dial up from 15 years ago. How is it possible in today's dam society to not be able to get a decent GD connection! Cable company stops service about 300 yards down the road...FML.

Are there any magical alternatives out there that I'm not aware of??? I don't care how much it costs within reason, just want to be able to play when I want to.

Do you have cellular service? You may want to try one of those USB to cellular devices and get a good data plan.

I confess, that's what I use. I have 3G cellular broadband. It has been the only choice (other than satellite or dial-up)

The cellular modem is plugged into a Cradlepoint router. The PS3 is wired via Ethernet to the router, other stuff is wireless. My stats to the same place this evening (that is a good ping for me):



We confirmed with the local AT&T tech this week that we can get DSL now, but only at a max of 1.5 Mb. We will probably be ordering that up soon. If anybody has recommendations regarding AT&T DSL such as modem vs. their wireless gateway, models, etc., please let me know. Thanks in advance.

If I could get 4g coverage in my area I would jump on this. I believe the 3g network speeds are comparable to what I get with my broadband during non-peak hours. Off peak my stats would look something like this: 67-115ms ping, 2.89Mb down, .75Mb up. Nothing great but certainly playable.

I find the dedicated connection bit almost amusing in a very disturbed maniacal state now; perhaps this will be the smoking gun in my false advertisement suit. However they do state that not all speeds are available in all areas.

I call their national tech support and they say it should be faster. Local tech guy shows up and says it can't be faster. I have done this 3 times and am seriously considering just making it a weekly ritual out of spite.

Between the hours of 12:30AM-1:30PM I can pull decent speeds. If I downgrade to the next tier of service I would not be able to play at all.

WoW I would rage!! Thats worse than the 1.5 crap I can get thru phone lines..
And they advertise 12mbps service with less than 1mbps actual, those guys would be putting in new line by the time I was done with them. .

Are you running the test via PC or PS3? Try it on the other and see if the results are similar. Run the internet connection test on the PS3 XBM and post the results, I want to know if they vary from speednet. Yes I know it’s not accurate just want the up/down numbers.
I need specifics on the hardware you use; router, Ethernet card, WIFI card, Cable modem and the like.

I did a quick search and most of fixes for this issue point to firmware problems, specifics on the hardware will narrow the search.

Another test would be to run something like the speakeasy speed test from the browser. It usually gives me numbers close to what my pc gives and is more accurate than the ps3 connection test. Speedtest.net used to work for me but the browser wont let it load properly anymore. Dead_Eric is right though there might be a "weak link" somewhere like old router firmware or such. Hell even loose/improper wiring can cause problems so even check to see if everything is tight and there are no open ends on splitters if you have any.

^^ yep, if you just moved and switched providers but using the same equipment, i'm thinking your equipment is optimized for the last provider and some tweaking my solve you problems.

2 hours played last night and NOT ONE 4 bar connection. WTF.

I'm hardwired too, so is there anything else I can do? If I play bad, (which is often) that's one thing, but when you get beat by connection, it's so goddamn frustrating.

Do I need to do the whole DMZ thing if I'm already open NAT?

i recently set up a proxy server i the house that is hard wired and used SG TCP Optimizer to optimize the TCP settings on the proxy host as well as configure it to disable Nagles Algorithm (Lag Compensation).

I THINK ive seen improvement in that Ive had much better game results since doing so. I moved back to no proxy for awhile and i had alot more lag so I went back to using the proxy again and i've been very happy.

Total setup time was < 1 hour...

i confess i know little about PS3's specific connection or how the game decides stuff about connection.

if anyone has links to info on this it would save the time in me digging it up. i recently had to learn a great deal about networking for our new product line at work. beware the internet has as much misleading info as it does good info on networking.
