| I've set up a proxy server using Amazon cloud services. The proxy serer itself is located in Northern VA but the internet facing link is located in Washington state.
I want to see if the connection quality shows any improvement by a squad coming from the same internet link. My gut tells me that well still see issues due to the number of hops between our house and the ps3 servers but i'm open to trying anything. Who wants to do some testing with me?
All you need to change on your end is to add the proxy server name and port on your Internet Connection Settings on the PS3.
simply add 'OC30.dyndns.org' for the proxy name(without the quotes) and '808' for the port number (again, no quotes). Let me know if you use it so I can keep mental track of the number of people using it.

| If I'm around tonight I can help out. On a side note, I had contemplated building a local proxy caching server at my house to possibly help with connection speeds but I'm not sure it would help with gaming. Mostly for web browsing speeds most likely Maybe I'll try it and see though. |

| had three clannies on earlier and the game was playing pretty well. at one point, Fireman joined into the lobby (though not using the proxy) and the all 3 of us proxy users were running 4 bars while poor F-man was dropping F-Bombs... hope to get a few more on it tonight for more testing |

| Your FL is full but i'll send you a random message next time i'm on so you can get some input from an EC guy with a mediocre 8 down and 2 up connection. Or if you find someone on your list that you suddenly hate you can send me a FR. Either way, but i'm always up for some good hate. |

| So would this basically put everybody on the same connection? I'm not very tech smart so I'm just curious what would be the potential advantage... |

I am sorry I have to disagree, but everyone has there own opinion. I think amazon is the best. I have a good reason tho. I bought my g/f the Kindle Fire for Christmas, she is always reading or playing on that thing in the evening now so I get alot more gaming in then I did befor Christmas. |

care to qualify that? Are you referring to Amazon shopping? S3, or EC2? Cloud technology in general? I'd love to hear more. As far as what I'm using them for, I'm pretty pleased. I can set up a new virtual instance in a matter of minutes and its free for a year as long as I stay under my bandwidth limit. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. |

| I agree, the Amazon does suck. After a certain point, how much fucking water do you need to have??? Insects that hunt snakes, snakes that hunt people, people that hunt people, AND its in South America, which reminds me of how every time we play a team from Argentina we're all on raging 1bar connection....
Wait...what are we talking about? |

| Audio, I was trying to figure out why you kept pulling host and I think I know. Like I mentioned above, the internet connection for Amazon is in Washington state. Youre in Western Canada arent ya? I bet that is why.

| Makes sense. I get host alot when playing alone as it is. I gotta say though, when we had 5/6 guys running the proxy set-up it sure levelled the connections. It may have also been due to me being host, but I was pretty happy with the results overall, minus the last game. Even the last game I was going positive again, but it was weird how they kept spawning at B on Mission even when they didn't have it. I also fiddled with my dns servers like Nixon had mentioned. I ran that test and it turns out my best ones are the secondary I was using (primary was crap) and 8.8.8.8. (Thanks Nixon ) So now I have UPnP off, PS3 out of DMZ and I am still OPEN NAT... |

| I didn't notice any real connection difference in my game last night. I was the only one not on the proxy. But if some see a difference (perceived or otherwise) then it's a good thing. |

| a few days have passed and Im still not sure if this solution adds any benefit. Ive still had bad lag and ive had no lag games. it's always worse in the evening than the day time.
Its been tough trying to get a full group on the proxy at the same time so I'm thinking about taking the server down. I can see from the logs that some are still using it but I also see a lot of web surfing going through it which is not why i set it up. I don't really mind the web traffic although Im a bit surprised people use the ps3 to browse the internet (HUGE PITA) but downloading files and such is a no-no.
Id like to hear from others that are using it for any feedback, positive or negative. before I decide |

| I am still running it. I started to download GCI demo last night and forgot I was on the proxy, sorry. I switched it off after 5% of 1.7GB.
I enabled it again and it is helping me. If you take it down could you show me how to set one up for myself atleast? Thanks for giving this a try obxj. |

| If its helping, Ill leave it running. I'll just have to make sure that I monitor the usage and dont end up with some HUGE bill at the end of the month.
