Net connection

I was just wondering what kinda of connection the rest of you are blazing at, or not blazing at.
I am at a 30down/4up which I get 5up most of the time. I am on cable. I see quite a bit of lag.

Advertised: 5down/1.5up

Reality: 3.5down/.8up

Your bandwidth isn't the problem.

I still get lag. I'm usually on the negative side of lag compensation, especially when I host.

14 down/2 up, 11 ping and lag out all the time and have trouble hosting some nights

I get 30 down 5 up, my connection is usually pretty solid running solo, but in parties not always.

I'd be fucking MLG if I had some real Internets out in these parts LOL

Somewhere around 17 down/4 up, 19 ping.

I was running 2.5 download, but had to do a mandatory switch from AT&T broadband to AT&T U-verse so now I'm running at approximately 11.5 download. I have noticed a little bit of a difference, but still run into those fun lag games.

From what I understand its all about ping in FPS games, the game itself(unless your hosting) takes very little bandwidth.  And even when your hosting your UPLOAD bandwidth will be the limiting factor, since you have to send info to 11(17 in GW) different consoles simultaneously.

I don't know how reliable it is, but I prefer pingtest.net to speedtest for checking my connection quality.  It measures ping, packet loss, and jitter, which are typically the three things that give you bad connections.



I did watch a Drift0r video in which he talked to some head guy at IW who said they are changing matchmaking from geographical regions into something that represents internet quality. Which I think will be a huge improvement, since the networks aren't laid out in neat little straight lines between houses...its much messier than that. I can do a ping test to a local server in a town 25 miles away and I'll get a ping of 165ms, but as you can see my ping to a server 300 miles away is 50ms(pretty good for 300 miles).

Where do you live Blue? I see your pinging to St. Cloud. I grew up in Brainerd. I just flew out of St. Cloud two weeks ago.
