Good Price on Hauppauge HD PVR?

Hey all,

Whats a good price on one of these dudes? Found one slightly used on Craigs List for $140.

Also, do I need anything special on the PC side as far as RAM, video card, ect. Any advise would be appreciated!

I paid like $187 for mine from bestbuy last year. I didn't need anything special. You will need the component cord for your XBox though to record in HD. The PVR will come with software to record with, but editing software will be needed to enhance the video. Windows movie maker would probably do fine by itself to start. It has color correct and sharpness adjustments and I use movie maker to post all my videos to YouTube. I have other programs for editing also but Sony Vegas isn't the easiest thing to learn to use.

I personally use Sony Vegas when editing films. It is pretty expensive though. There also is WeVideo (http://www.wevideo.com) which is a cloud based editor with professional quality tools all online via their cloud. It is also integrated into Youtube. The free one has a water mark and is not HD, but it is free.

I have the setup, does anybody know a good place to find royalty/ copyright free music? I use the standard disclaimer in my vids. I would like to not have to do that at all. If I could find a descent local band to get written permission would be awesome but in a town this small it would be difficult. any suggestions?

There isn't exactly a list, trsut me I looked, but Youtube will pull down the audio of your clip if someone complains about the copyright of the song you took. Personally, I had only one clip come down and it was because of Nickleback being played. I used to post up a lot of videos for World of Warcraft for the guild I was in. Honestly I would just post them up and if they get the sound pulled down, render another one with different bands.

Hey guys, I bought a Hauppauge 1212 off ebay, hooked it up, turned it on. The blue light comes on, the status light comes on momentarily and the "top ring" flashes then does nothing. The blue power light stays on and I have no video on the tv and the computer doesn't recognize it. Thinking I got shafted with a bunk PVR. Thoughts?

Is there a Hauppauge website with troubleshooting info? That may be helpful. you also have to change the settings on your ps3/xboxand input on your tv. once you change the settings on your ps3/xbox and accept the screen will go blank, then change the input on your tv to find video again. there will be a prompt to ask you if you want to keep those settings with a timer counting down, accept the change. after halfway writing this I see you have an xbox, not sure if it is the same settings wise as the ps3. on the pvr, once you get video, you have to change the setting for xbox, I had to mess with mine to get it to work. I hope this helps. I've never had an xbox, but I would think that setting up the video output would be similiar. If you are missing instructions I think I still have mine to look them over. any other questions and I'll try to help.

I'm a flippin idiot. All I had to do is change the xbox display from 1080p to 1080i and it showed up. Computer didn't recognize it because I hadn't installed the drivers yet.

I reorded a couple games at lunch so I'll mess with it at work and see what I come up with. Maybe asking some settings advise.
