Today has been a sad day.

Well I did the hardest thing I have ever had to do this morning and that was to let go of 2 of my bestfriends. I had to have 2 of my dogs put to sleep today. They have been my companions for years. One was 16 and the other about 11. A boxer and a shitzu. The house just isnt the same without them around. It will take some time and probably some tears to get over this. Of course they may be gone but will never be forgotten. I could go on and on about them and having to leave them there but I will leave it at that. RIP, Oscar and Morgan. We love and miss you.

Been there. Had a ferret that we had for several years. She had a gi bleed and I held her when they put her to sleep. Really sucked. Also had two dogs put down. One of the worst things ever. Sorry for ur loss.

Sorry to hear that Missiler. I know what you're going through, I had a similar experience with 2 English Setters and it amazing how these animals become part of our lives and we feel such loss.

Look back on the fun times with them and enjoy remembering all their stupid quirky things that made them special to you.

That sucks bro. I know how you feel bro when i was 12 we had to put or dog and cat to sleep it was painful

I put the original Fat Brown Dog down last summer at 14. Thank God my wife was there, or else I wouldn't have been able to drive home. I cancelled the appointment 3 different times and then when his legs gave out one last time and he crashed to the floor he looked at me as if to say, "Let's go...I've had enough of this shit."

At the time I was tortured by having to play God, but I found great comfort online with various message boards and input from vets who deal with it every day. Hope you can find some relief the same way.

Sorry for your loss. 2 years ago I had to put my Simba down he was 15 years old and his quality of life was deteriorating rapidly. It was tough as I got him as a young adult and he was one stable thing I had when I went through some times in my life. Needless to say I now only own a cat, I will get a dog again one day but it will be tough to replace my loyal mutt.

I'm sorry for your loss, but I celebrate the time you spent together as a family. Nothing can ever bring them back, but nothing can ever take away the memories of the time you shared either.

It is never easy to let go of a loved one but ultimately it is a very humane choice. As a vet, I deal with this more than I would like and it never gets easier. I've cried on the floor with patients & clients when it was time to cross The Bridge. FBD is right in that there are support groups out there either on the net or by phone, most vet schools have one at no charge if you just want someone to talk to.

Though they are gone from your home, may the happy memories you shared always remain in your heart.

Awe man that's sad. I lost my dog a few years ago. "Shaa" was a Rottweiler/Bassethound and the cutest dog on the planet.

Thanks guys it has been rough. I know they are in a better place though. It just teaches me to enjoy the time I have with my beloved pets as they won't be here forever. I sure do miss them though.

I put my best friend down 2 years ago...it was one of the worst days in my life.
sobbed like a baby girl and started smoking same day.....you never get over losses like that but time does help seal up the wounds.

Fortunately I have another dog and she has received all my attention since and it really helped having her around.
