PS4 reveal thread

I figured I would go ahead and start this thread for today's events. I am really excited to see what they have to offer. This kind of reveal is the beginning of the next big thing. I am not saying that the PS4 is THAT thing, but this puts that distant "next gen" right in our face and it is finally something real. I am not expecting many surprises related to the console itself, just mostly confirmation of rumors. I am anxious to hear what they are doing with the Playstation Network/Store, the controller and other features. Of course, my biggest attraction to the event is to see the games used to show off the system. Battlefield 4? Watch Dogs? Destiny? GTA 5?

I read a rumor that Killzone will be the big release game.

I'm really interested to see what Sony decides to do with this system. I really, really hope they keep the cost to buy below $500. I may be more interested in the what the suggested retail price is supposed to be over anything else.

Rumor has it the neXtbox will come in at around $450.

Let us hope Sony learned their lesson last time when it comes to outrageous pricing at release. The system that is cheaper will win the vast majority of market at launch I bet.

Good point on the pricing. I could at least understand the pricing on the PS3 based on them having the blue ray player. I think they were betting on getting an expanded market of those who didn't want to pay for a blue ray AND a PS3 and thought it would be attractive. I hope they don't keep repeating mistakes of the past.

Kotaku believes they will show Battlefield 4 running on the PS4 tonight! Excited to see what BF4 will look like on the next gen consoles!

Price....."The current plan, our source says, is to release them at $429 and $529, but that could change."......sounds good to me.

PSN....."Orbis is also following the path first set by Xbox Live: our source says "most" of the PS4's online features will require a premium subscription to use. Sony's new online service will be called PlayStation World, our source says, replacing PlayStation Plus.".........ouch.

^^^ yup that's the article! So knew they'd go to a pay online model... they've had enough of watching M$ make all that money off of it.

I like the news so far pretty much.

Price point is doable......pleased with that.

They are adding in party chat and the ability to have more than one PSN acct signed into the same PS4 (like the xbox does now) and that is important to me since I have multiple users using each xbox.

It is looking like PSN is going to finally be on equal footing with xbl as far as features. I don't care about paying for it as long as the price is reasonable so that I can afford at least 3 accts......copy MS's family plan here Sony.

I'm liking the rumors mostly anyway.

I'll need a big reason to add a PS4 to my Wii U and Xbox 720. (My Wii U just sits their now waiting for a Zelda and Mario) Most games are/will be released for the current and next Xbox and or Wii U... I can't see any exclusives making me buy another Sony console.


The Last of us looks meh to me...
Not a fan of Resistance or Killzone (Killzone 1 was the reason I bought a PS3 orig.. let down)
Not a fan of Infamous either (though i can see why some are!)
Metal Gear Solid 5 would sell me a PS4... BUT will be on the next gen Xbox (and possibly Wii U)... sooo hmm. Idk if i buy

You are going to miss out on the next Uncharted and God of War though.

I don't care for the other Sony exclusives but those two games kick ass. You gotta be ok with just a single player game though.

Last exclusive I picked up for the PS3 was Twisted Metal. Ha ha. It wasn't that great to be honest but it was fun for a week or so.

I don't mind paying a subscription fee for the PS World or whatever they are going to call it. but, it better have interactive features. Their Playstation Plus was a steaming pile of poop (saying the word poop makes me laugh)

Very impressive stuff from Sony tonight. The games look freaking sick. Killzone:Shadow Fall, Watch Dogs, Final Fantasy, Diablo 3 & Destiny....mind blown.

I was unimpressed. No console shown, games shown were already "known" to be next gen, and the visuals look good, but still don't even come close to last years PC high end cards. Bool! Lol and they didn't mention that Xbox has a one year deal with Bungie for Destiny for exclusivity.

Edit I take the exclusivity back... It looks like it was only for 2013 and now Destiny was pushed back to 2014 anyway so everyone gets it same time.

I don't think Destiny has any xbox exclusivity since they are advertising pre-orders for xbox, PS4 and PC. They stated in the reveal that PS4 will have exclusive content which I take to mean that each platform will have something unique made for it. The looks of the box itself doesn't mean much to me and of course they can't touch high end PC cards. If I wanted to spend $800+ for a gaming system with an elite card I would get a PC and sit at a desk to play.

Yeah, BO2 got closer to the party chat system but I'm talking about the full system like the other night when I was in Halo and Brennan was back at the home screen but we were chatting via party chat while he asked me about what he needed to get so he could get the multiplayer part going.

BO2 chat and party making is better than ever on the PS3 and is almost there. In game there is still one thing lacking though and that is.....while it is easy to mute everyone but your party so that you don't hear them, they still hear you which I don't like.

Almost there with PS3 BO2 and the PS4 should get full party chat I think.

That "PS4" is the photoshop that was circulating last week i believe.

Ya, I'm not sold on it...I'll have to see the nextbox first...I like Sony PS3 and the controller better, but I hate that it's going to download only maybe and always have to be online to play. We're going to need a 2 TB hard drive for all the downloads..lol

Sounds good, but then again u never know. I waited almost 2 yrs before buying the ps3. Not saying I'm gonna wait that long but definetly won't be right away. Want to see reviews after release and let Sony work out the bugs first.

Bugs, schmugs... Buy a few buddies some beer and chips and hang out overnight to pick up 4 or 5 of them on launch night, sell them the next day for $200 over cost, and have a free system and a little extra cash for your "trouble." If the system is a winner or a loser, you end up with one free and so you lose out on nothing and get a free console. You can't do that after launch.
