| My son came to me with a unique problem. He stated that he went to play a couple games yesterday and both were calling for updates. When he went to download them both the update fail. It asked about connection issues and also gave a support code.
For the last 3 and 1/2 hrs., I have tried everything that I could come up with or that I was patient enough to read on google and xbox support.
1. Reset router even though the connection wasn't an issue.
2. Pulled harddrive and put it back in.
3. Deleted the cache. (This really only added to my problems because it also deletes the update that were already installed that for recommending that one xbox.)
4. I haven't deleted a game and reinstalled it. This was also a suggestion, but I have a feeling this won't work either, because I just downloaded a free trial with success but when I went to try it. It also asked to be updated which failed.
Any advice is appreciated guys and gals.

| another thing that you can try until you are able to get to the bottom of it is pull the hard drive and use a spare USB flash drive and just import his account on that and see if he is at least able to game at all. | |

| Delete xbox cache and all updates he tried then redownload them. | |

| I wonder if there is an issue with the hard drive itself. Stupid question but how much free space is on the drive?
What game(s)?
Did you remove the drives - turn on the xbox - wait for dashboard - power back off - reinstall drive cycle power and try the update again?
I thought I heard you mention last night this was a USB hard drive? If so try plugging the drive into a different USB port. Start with the rear USB then try each front one to see if that makes a difference.

| So I believe it is a Hard drive problem. I copied a game that needed an update to a USB and downloaded his GT and pulled the hard drive. I was then able to do all of his updates when I had the hard drive pulled with a USB attached. When I had both plugged in I was unable to do any updates. I always got the failed code.
The hard drive is a 250 GB and has 179 GB of available space, so space isn't an issue. This is also a xbox 360 S.
I am not sure if getting a new hard drive would answer the problem.
My other question now is where are updates saved at. Are these under the game on the hard drive or are they just saved in the cache?
Black Death what is reinstall drive cycle power and try the update again?
Thanks so far everyone for all of the help.

I did this, but only added to my problem since it deleted his recent updates and still didn't allow for any updates.

| Before I bought a new hard drive I would format the one you have and see if it is working then. | |

| turn the xbox off remove all the drives turn the xbox on - let it boot to the dash board turn xbox off reinstall usb hard drive into the rear port on the xbox power xbox back on - let it boot to dash board put your game back in and attempt update
if this does not work repeat the process and try plugging the hard drive in the front usb port
if it still does not work there must be an issue with the drive you can try formatting it

| 1. The Hard drive is internal. I added the USB so I could do the updates. The hard drive seems to work for saving games. It just doesn't seem to allow for updating. | |
