| Subject: Your Feedback Matters – Update on Xbox One Wed Jun 19, 2013 5:09 pm | |
| Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience. For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future. Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One. You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world. So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:
- An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
- Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.
In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions. These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray. We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds. Thank you again for your candid feedback. Our team remains committed to listening, taking feedback and delivering a great product for you later this year.

| Excellent! Now can we do something about the mandatory Kinect? Hopefully that will change before launch date. They'd have to be tone deaf if they didn't allow you to unplug the device with all the data mining coming to light with both govt and corporate. We all know NOTHING is really disconnected unless its physically disconnected.
Quite frankly, that is the only thing that bothers me about the ONE. Although I don't keep my Xbox in my living room anymore, for those that did...that Kinect camera looking at me all the time would creep me out.
I sure hope that stupid camera isn't going to be for targeted ads and product placement in games and content sometime in the future. Even the first Kinect had person recognition. Can you imagine having to sit through a Viagra ad between COD games.

| And i posted the IGN article lol jesus christ we were all over that shit! haha
Ok, now big question is... what do you guys think? Anyone going from PS4 back to Xbox One as a result?
I personally am sticking PS4, the DRM and internet checks were only part of the reason I want a PS4 first this gen.

| ^^^Same. The DRM and 24hr checks weren't my only issues. I wonder if they will go back on mandatory Kinect. Or release a sans-Kinect Xbox One for $399.... now THAT would be a super smart move on M$ part! | |

| Now BIG question... how does this impact the good things that came along with the DRM and 24hr checks... it appears (at first glance) that it removes...
Family Sharing? Gifting games to friends digitally? Taking my games with me everywhere? Being able to play games without discs?
Is this all gone? If so... that sucks for those who were really looking forward to it

Ah, i see.. thanks! Man i kind of feel even worse about M$ now lol.. i know, i know... M$ will say "we listened to you!" but did they? Or did they just see all the negative press and PS4 preorders and tuck tail? A great quote from IGN "It shows a lack of vision, planning and leadership to reveal the policy, double-down on it, say how great it is, then change it. That's all." — Colin Moriarty (@notaxation) June 19, 2013 Regardless... this is an unprecedented change and i'm sure it will make TONS of people very happy!

| Wel, looks like the people who liked the Xbox one are now bummed they're losing all their family sharing and no disc features hahahaha christ! It also requires day one patching of the system. I wonder if there will be more internet rage from the Xbox One supporters wanting all of that back! lol You think M$ will go and flip flop again saying "Hey, we re-listened to what you want, we got it wrong again... the One will now have DRM and 24 hr internet checks! Yea!!!" hahahahah http://kotaku.com/surprise-xbox-one-drm-reversal-requires-day-one-patch-514419715 | |

| Wow. The over two to one preorder thing really hit home with MS didnt it. We all know that was really what pushed them to do this. Everyone has been bitchin about BO for how long and they havent even tried to put pressure on the developer for those things since the $$$ were already in the pockets. And yes they(MS)does have a say in it what a developer can do to correct things after all xbox has millions on users and those users are MS customers whoch in turn translates into clout. | |

| I hope we don't lose family game sharing. I'd rather have that but whatever. Like I've said all along, they will be in living rooms before people know what is what.
Looks like the major complaints have been addressed though which are used games and always on connection. |

| So I read this Microsoft To Reverse Xbox One Policies After Fan Revolt. One word reaction: WOW The last two paragraphs summed it up nicely for me. - Quote :
- Still, it’s rather insane that the backlash to this was so great that it actually caused Microsoft to do a full 180 here. Perhaps it was mandatory with how much the Xbox One was getting slammed by the press and the public, but it’s still amazing they actually did it. Imagine how many headaches they could have saved by just having these policies from the get-go. This was Sony throwing a wrench in their works, plain and simple, and they were forced to respond. If the PS4 had simply fallen in line with Microsoft’s utopian vision of a new era of digital downloads and constant internet access, the resulting outcry would have surely been met with silence by both companies.
This console war just got even more interesting, and now it’s likely to be a much closer race in the early stages than before. This development obviously requires much more follow-up, and we’ll be checking in with Microsoft, publishers and fans for more angles to this breaking story.

Looks like the major complaints have been addressed though which are used games and always on connection. unfortunately all those good things like family sharing and no need for cd and such are all gone. There are now people complaining all about the change bc of that... It's a never ending story lol

| Haha... I guess you really can't please everyone. But I really do think MSFT went the right way here. Again, I'm pretty amazed they went this far to make those kinds of changes this late in the game. | |
