| Probably the best permanent solution for the fat PS3 YLOD issue is reballing it from what I have read, sending it off or replacing the solder yourself. From the research I did on it its a surefire way to stop the issues if it works. I found some places online that did it for under $100 but I am thinking about doing mine to eliminate having to constantly try to maintain or reflow it. It has been replaced with a slim but the old ones looked nicer and I miss PS2 games and the card reader on the old 60GB was so much easier than setting my camcorder in USB mode and waiting for it to initialize IMO. My question to all of you is if anyone has heard of or know anyone that has successfully done it or had it done? Thanks in advance | |

| Thanks but that's not quite what I was talking about. The procedure I'm thinking of involves removing the CPU/GPU from the board and replacing the lead free solder with leaded solder called reballing or a BGA rework. Here is an example. Reballing, GPU Long Term FixAfter some more research I think I'm going to order the parts and try it, the worst that can happen is I'm out a partially working PS3 that I don't use anymore. I will let everyone know if it works, I might start marketing it to the public at my shop if it's successful but time will tell. It may even work for laptop chips, either way I'll post results when it happens. | |
