Subject: End of drop shots and panic knifing? Fri Oct 12, 2012 7:32 am
So I have heard that drop shots have been nerfed in Blop2 by pausing the ability to fire while moving toward the prone position. This is factually unconfirmed by me so if anyone can confirm/deny I'm interested. I have heard from multiple sources that multiplayer gameplay videos display this so I will look through some of the video that is posted to confirm.
I have also heard that panic knifing is being removed, but I did read an article from one of the developers that there are two different knife types (i.e. just like blops1 you can pick a stonger tatical knife over default). I interpretted the dev comments to mean that knifing would work just like Blop1 so I am curious.
In both cases, assuming this is true, my only guess to reasons why is to overcome the choice/sacrifice of button layout (and to reduce modded controller advantage, like the scuf). It's all hearsay though, and is tough to seperate individual opinion and gripes on the net from fact right now.
Here is an interesting review by Woody. It is a touch dated but he does point out some interesting things:
Re: Woodys confusion on the blocks at the bottom left of the class loadout screen, I think everyone knows by now that those are wildcards that allow for things like two T1 perks.

Based on some of the stuff I have seen from they guys who were brought to Treyarch to test the game, panic knifing is still there. But, the huge lunge is gone. You can get surprised and slash someone close but that dude you are shooting from 8 feet away isn't going to take 2 bullets and slash you from distance. Not sure about the drop shot.
If you have time to waste MeErnestLe was there and did a long ask me anything video where he breaks down all the videos from the event and answers a ton of questions.

Thx for the info/video. I will definitely take a look.
I did watch video this morning of released Blop2 gameplay, and I only saw one occasion where he dropped while firing. It looked like he only went to crouch position though. I didnt see any video of knifing

Panic knife doesn't bother me too bad but I've become too accustom to my drop shot!

Oh shit! Now you'll just have to stay prone instead of moving back and forth two feet and drop shoting! Campy McCamper Paints?

Is it still considered a drop shot if I drop to prone then stay there for the rest of the game?

Guess that would kinda make tactical kinda useless.

I wish they'd make it where you hit the knife button once to pull the knife out and another to swipe it AND make it where all it does is SWIPE. No lunge whatsoever!
Unless your using a balistice knife, then it's obviously already out and give it a lunge or swipe depending on where the enemy is on-screen.
I think another cool move with the balistic knife is with two clicks of the button it would do a diving stab. How sweet would it be to dive off a roof to stab someone.

Honestly Soul, talking with you about BO2 while playing the original has actually sparked more interest in it than all the media hype that's been thrown at me over the last couple of months. I can confidently say that I'm really lookin' forward to this release even more so than mw3's last year. I definitely like the care and thought that has been put in to the perk system.
The triple team death match is a great concept that could seriously make a dead horse game mode much more fun. I used to play a pc game that had a triple style like this about 6 or 7 years ago and the level of confusion and chaos that a third team class could cause is quiet interesting to think about. Hmmm much to ponder. I wonder if they've considered a triple team objective based game mode ... ahhh glorious chaos!
As far as no drop shot I would pretty much be screwed myself...I rely on it way too much to save my duff.

Here here! Real men(and women) stand motionless while firing... from the hip... from 30 yards away... with a pistol. Cigar optional.

Ha ha! Personally i'm more familiar with the following method:-
1. Run around the corner directly into the sights of a bad guy.
2. Let out a little girly yelp whilst standing there like a rabbit caught in the headlights.
3. Let off a full mag spray of bullets in all directions, but crucially not hitting a single thing.
4. Get taken out by a single shot from the bad guy.
I must say, i'm pretty good at this one.

im thinking we will get used to the mechanics just as we did from bo to mw3. i missed the dolphin dive a lot when i started mw3 now i will miss the run and drop.

After reading through tweets, looks like the knife lunge is in fact gone (for "standard" knifing at least). I hear it makes knifing more difficult if you are used to panic knifing.
Drops are back and are said to be extremely useful; I interpret that to mean no delay andbusiness as usual. Basically tactical will continue to be the button layout of choice.
For those that have a scuf controller, they will still provide benefit, though jump shots aren't nearly as advantageous as in blops 1 and the knife lunge is gone. Still benefits players via shorter trigger delay, no slow sticks, and the fact your thumbs can stay on the sticks in all situations except reload and changing weapons.
