So if my console won't connect to my wireless router, for whatever mysterious reason, what are the odds a wireless headset will connect to my console?

What headset do you have? I'm pretty sure headsets/controllers connect with bluetooth, not your network connection.

No headset as yet. I'm still 'shopping' for a low profile wireless headset. No too thrilled at the prospect of wearing a Pilot's headset :-) while i'm playing.

buddy of mine gave me some insight that the wireless headsets, having a transmittor base to them, connects through the TV and/or the console and sends the audio signal vs the wireless router being involved.

I'd have to say I think your buddy is wrong with all do respect. You can have a wireless headset and not be connected to the internet what so ever. The headset will have some sort of transmitter (box) that connects to the xbox via USB but it wont use your internet. Unless he is using some odd ball brand that works that way.

If you're in the market for a wireless headset for a good price I think Turtle Beach probably makes the best one for your buck. Check the "for sale" section of the forum. I think Missiler was selling a set at one time.

FYI all the cool kids wear the pilot's headsets Laughing

The Pilot's headset are great when the kids or wife come into the room and try to bother you. The headsets either block out what they are saying or give you a good excuse to say you can't hear them. Twisted Evil

That was me Slam that Snag was talking about!! I think you read his message incorrectly or else it's worded weird. I told Scott that I have a TB PX5 and the basestation connects to my PS3 and sends audio to my headset wirelessly without wifi being involved. Snag's problem is that his wifi is screwed up from all the naughty videos that he downloads in his free time lol....

Gotcha. Dude, are you nuts??? You don't watch naughty videos with a headset on! You're asking for someone to catch you!

I guess I did read it wrong. But no, there should be no correlation between wifi and your headset signal.

SNAG - we've run some games together and you DESPERATELY need a mic! You were holding your own w/out being able to communicate, which was quite impressive...but not nearly as much fun!! silent

Slam was correct in saying that most of the headsets connect via blue-tooth, so your wifi issues shouldn't impact your ability to have a headset/mic.

SwollenCamel mentioned that he got an xbox blue-tooth basic mic & headset (not the pilot/DJ type) for like $20...it does the trick.

Actually the Xbox does not use blue-tooth natively (PS3 does). Xbox has a proprietary wireless connection, so in order to to connect directly to the Xbox you have to have a Microsoft branded/supported mic or headset. The other products like Astro or Turtle Beach use a transmitter that connects to the Xbox via USB (for power) and optical (or old analog connections) for sound. The headset device then has a cable that plugs in to the controller for mic functionality.
