My Family

On Monday morning my dad called my mom at work complaining of pain in his chest and hard to breath. Now my dad doesn't complain about pain at all unless it's something major. By the time we all got home and got him to the hospital they said he had a massive heart attack. Between the times of 9:00 and 11:30 in the morning they had already took him from his house to the hospital and put two stints in his major artery and a balloon in his second major artery. He had 100% blockage in his major and 70% in his 2nd major. He's alive but not out of the woods. Last night they took out his vent tube and he was talking and doing well but this morning they had to reinsert it. So if everyone would please keep me and my family in their prayers thoughts I would greatly appreciate it thank you all so much.

So sorry to hear. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. I know where you're coming from as my father also had a heart attack and quad bypass surgery almost 10 years ago and he is healthy and strong now.

Thanks everyone for the prayers. Update they are gonna keep him on the vent until Sunday to see if heart gets any stronger. The reason they said they had to put him back on is because he had some heart damage and he also has a touch of pneumonia.

O.K. something to make you mad. Is it protocol for the hospital to come up to the spouse of a patient in critical care and tell them what they already owe the hospital for him being there? Sounds a little insensitive to me, I mean you can clearly see that she is upset why add more to her worries.

That's unfortunate - Different hospital "corporations" have different protocols so it's hard to say - is it in poor taste? Well fuck yes it is and I would bring it up to someone higher up in the hospital just in case it isn't protocol. I do know here in Tx they can not refuse Emergency service to anyone given it is a valid emergency, payment does not come into play here in that situation and isn't even a subject until you leave the hospital.

Update: They were able to remove his vent tube and all his vitals are good. He was talking and drinking last night, still has some pneumonia but he is a lot better. Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers.

and yeah that's just a tad insensitive to ask about the fucking bill while at the time he wasn't doing so hot

if they start giving you shit simply tell them you need a patient advocate because you're uncertain about the bill(s) that'll stall them for a few days

i had a 2k bill from my son needing an MRI - i have a health savings account that my employer contributes to twice a year, I asked them if they could wait slightly over 90 days (when the account would be re-filled with money) and I could pay the bill in full their answer to me was simply "if the bill is 90 days past due we'll send it to collections"

UPDATE: First off I would love to say that I had good news, but we don't always get what we want. On Monday May 22 my dad had a massive heart attack, eight days later he come off his vent and the doctors were amazed. They told us that with the heart attack he had it had a 100% mortality rate. Only 35% of my dad's heart was working. He defied the odds and on the following Saturday he came home, had to do some therapy but he was where he wanted to be. My mom went back to work and dad was staying at my sisters house with my nephew while she was there so he could be close if anything happened. Today as I was going home from work my mom called me and told me to get over to my sisters house, I did and upon arrival I saw my dad laying there as if asleep. The medics said that he died in his sleep. Again I ask that you all keep me and my family in your thoughts and prayers. He may be gone but he is in a better place. Thank you all for your support through all of this.

I am really sorry to hear about this. My heart goes out to you and your family. I lost my father 10 years ago this month and it was tough. We are all here for you and if I can help in any way let me know.
