However, to the majority of core-gamers... M$ flipped them the bird... then said they didn't mean it and were sorry. I can understand the Xbox loyals who are pissed and backing the petition. I just think it's more of a "lets find something wrong" mentality that supporters of a different system have. Xbox fans do it to the Playstation fans and vice versa. I consider myself to be a core gamer and I don't think they flipped me the bird. They presented something the gamers didn't agree with and changed it to suite us. As for that petition, it's full trolls and people just signing that have no intention of getting the Xbox One. |

It's funny MS is being called money grabbers and etc but the truth is that what companies do. You can almost bet Sony had something similar but seen how the backlash on MS went and didn't go through with it. Honestly nothing that has happened with MS makes me feel any different about them. I would agree that bost MSFT and Sony are out to get our money. They aren't non-profits after all. However, I don't know that Sony did things at the last minute to go opposite of MSFT. It’s not as if they watched the XB1 press conference and decided right after to undercut them by $100 and remove any used game restrictions. This stuff has been years in the making. I think they both had different visions of what they wanted their next gen box to be like. With MSFT flip flopping all around, it just looks bad for them, like they don’t know what the heck they are doing, and one wonders how much forethought they have put into their $500 device. If they can’t adequately decide what they want to do with their box after years of development, why should I put any money into it to help them decide? They need to figure out what their box is, what it can and can’t do, message it in a way that makes sense to me and makes me WANT to buy it. I shouldn’t have to try to figure out what they are trying to sell me. That’s smacks of arrogance and is bad business.

| Wall, you summed it up well.
M$ doesn't know what they're doing and they've shown that to the world... not just gamers. When the anti-DRM stuff hit the mass media and then the flip flop... after Sony's bashing... Don's departure... now a new petition to go back to the original concept... it's a crumbling mess for the company. They really cant seem to win.
Even if this petition is being fueled by trolls or anti M$ fanbois... it's making noise... and it's very bad for M$ regardless of where it's coming from. We didn't, and we won’t see anything like this regarding the PS4 because the gaming community has embraced Sony's pro gamer/developer stance.

| well here's some fact - sony went out of their way to include everyone in the chain (retailers, developers, etc) to essentially create the ps4.
when I sat in Gamestop's shareholding meeting all of those people (including the board) were left in the dark completely by MS regarding the XB1. So whatever reason MS had in doing this they hurt themselves IMO because Sony pulled ahead and has a LOT of people informed as to what they're offering. Fuck we still don't know exactly what'll be supported for the XB1's HDMI in connector? Cmon the fucking thing is supposed to be on sale in 4 months. Also what happened to illumiroom or whatever they're calling it now?
If you want to sell a product you don't HIDE it or it's features from the consumer...you're supposed to show it off.
The key thing I've determined is that I won't be impulse buying any new console. I'm going to wait for the dust to settle and then measure the offerings.

Illumiroom was never a MS product; a third party developed the concept and is trying to get developers and MS interested in working with it and funding.

I was under the impression that Illumiroom was/is a Microsoft Reasearch project just like Kinect was. http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/projects/illumiroom/So maybe we'll see it one day.

- And in other flip-flop news....
Sony announced that you can play any game on your library on anyone else's PS4!
Wasn't this one of the things M$ was pushing with the One and then took away?! I'm digging this.
“You can visit your friend’s house [and] log into your account and play any game from your digital library, which is good,” Brown said. “But how useful is that if it takes half a day to download the game you want to play? With Play As You Download you get much quicker access to at least the first section of the game so you can start playing quicker. So this makes a digital library a practical option in the real world.” PS4 will allow you to play your games from multiple consoles. -Via IGN This is just like current generation xbox and it is exactly what next generation will be like on the xbox. No change for xboxers. I'm not sure how digital content works on the PS3 right now other than DLC (you can download your DLC to 2 PS3's and any user can access the DLC on both those systems). I assume you can do the same for Downloaded games???? Download twice??? I don't know. On xbox you can put any downloaded content on as many xbox 360's as you like. The very first download will allow any gamertag to play the game/use the DLC on that first system. The next time you download it, only the original purchasing gamertag can access it.....and nobody else. But, you can put it on 500 xbox's if you liked and you could play it under the original gamertag on any of them but only that one gamertag. The family sharing was going to be something else entirely. |
