I've need shooting NAP Thunderhead 125gr. fixed blades since i started archery hunting like 17 years ago. I recently switched to a faster bow and carbon arrows so dropped down to 100gr. heads to maintain the high speeds.
After doing a lot of research and internet searching, i'm realizing finding anything but pissing matches or advertisements is hard to come by. Since i value many of your opinions and experiences here's the question....
Mechanical vs. Fixed blade. what kind and why?

My thunderheads are a 3 blade head.
I did go out and purchase a pack of the new Rage 3 blade mechs the other day but they sit unopened in my bow case.

I have the obvious concerns about a mechanical failure at 300-310FPS with moving parts getting jammed and not opening up on impact or having 1 blade slip out and open early, making my arrow change direction in flight

Thoughts?

I use 100 gr Thunderheads on my carbon arrows. I tried mechanical broad heads for a while, but they really seemed like one shot wonders. Every one that I ever shot ended up with bent blades and I had to throw it away. I never had a problem with mechanicals not opening or opening prematurely that I know of. Thunderheads are great. They have replaceable blades and you can piece them out to get a complete working unit from several unusable heads.

Thats exactly why i've always used thunderheads. I have a dozen 125gr heads with about 2 dozen worth of replacement parts that don't have a home now that i went to 100s.
Part of my thought about the mechs is that their cutting area is so much bigger (Rage extreme 2 blade is 2.3in and yes that a little ridiculous). They do sell replacement blades for the mechs now, but i also worry about the durablilty of the actual head seeing that they're essentially hollow inside.

Honestly i just want to find something legit that will fly just like my Field points so i don't have to sight in my bow all the time.

I don't get to bow hunt much but I have tried fixed and mechanical!! From what little experience I have I liked the fixed way better! Mainly due to the "one shot wonder" and failure rates. I found some short broad heads that had practice tips that flew dang near exactly the same so no resighting needed!
