OK It's Time... SCAR-L VS ACR VS G36C VS AK47 VS M4A1... FMG9 VS G18... UMP45 vs P90 vs PP90M1

Now that almost everyone has made it through all the gun unlocks it's time for a review/discussion and what everyone likes about each gun.

I will start with my impressions.

M4A1 - Adequate as a starter level gun, wont get you killed constantly early in prestige, needs RDS for accuracy since with irons it has an awkward ADS raise tendency (gun sort of hops up).

SCAR-L - Easily the best iron sights of all the assault rifles IMO which allows you to use different attachments such as silencer or ext. mags when you level up. Very accurate, not so powerful, sometimes takes 5-6 shots to kill with it from distance. My favorite AR of all simply due to iron sights, accuracy, and seemingly simple use.

G36C - Reminds me of the AUG from BLOPS. Very fast fire rate, however recoil is tough to manage at range. I liked it at first then found myself moving backwards to the SCAR.

ACR - This is the "Dan Marino" of guns to me. All the stats are tops in ARs, fire rate close to the G36C, accuracy of the SCAR, high damage. Very good overall gun, however, I do not like the iron sights as much as many others do so an RDS is required for me and the muzzle flash is tough for me without the silencer. For most this would be the best AR, for me it is awkward to shoot thus being less effective than the SCAR.

AK47 - Very much like the MW2 AK, awful iron sights, and even with RDS I dont really like the vision in this gun. High damage, high recoil, good range, most likely the "experts" choice to master. I just could never get used to this weapon in any COD game.

FMG9 vs G18 - I LOVE that they brought back the machine pistols from MW2 into this game as having a secondary weapon that is useful is awesome! Either of these guns akimbo are simply unbeatable at close range. I always loved the G18 akimbo in MW2 and this one is very similar. However, the recoil and controllability has always been in question and still is. The FMG9 akimbo (most likely the first weapon to be nerfed) simply seems unfair overall. While the damage is basically the same as the G18, the range is just too far and the recoil is very minimal. There is no way this gun should be able to shoot at the range it does with steady aim on. My guess is this gun gets adjusted for range when IW starts fixing the game. All that said, I just LOVE the sound of the G18s doing their business and have been running them since unlocking at level 70.

UMP45 - Great overall SMG reminds me of the MW2 UMP45 AND the BLOPS AK74u. Has range similar to an AR, with the mobility of an SMG. Fire rate is kind of slow and equipping rapid fire hampers my ability to shoot at range so I am normally running this with silencer. Many will prefer to use the range proficiency but I have decided that the kick proficiency works best for me. The iron sights in this gun are great meaning no RDS needed. Overall just a great gun in all respects.

P90 - Somewhat similar to the UMP45, except to me the irons are a little bulky and take up too much of the screen for me to be accurate. Reload time is slower as well but the clip is bigger so that offsets it. Seems to have the best hip firing accuracy (no idea why) as I have seen people hip firing this bad boy into windows and killing people. I ran this on my normal UMP45 class and switched back however I do think it is a good gun overall.

PP90M1 - Feels more like a secondary to me. Cool gun when you first use it or if you pick one up off the ground, however, I cannot be effective with this gun consistently. The only way I have equipped this in my classes was using overkill and making this my secondary with an AR as primary. I would prefer the FMG9 or G18 though and save that perk slot for something more useful.

Overall, my thoughts on weaponry in this game is positive. Lots of variations make for many different styles of game play. Unlike black ops where basically you could pick up any AR (FAMAS, Galil, Enfield, Aug, etc) and play exactly the same. These guns all have distinct differences. Now if I can just train myself to hip fire more I could be more successful with my primary weapons.

Thoughts? I ommitted the burst and single fire guns as I just cannot use them well. But I will say that the 3 round burst gun (type 95?) has killed me probably more than anything other than FMG9s.

MK14 rapid fire and red dot is a great class for me. 2 hit kill from almost anywhere on the map. Rapid fire allows you to get the rounds out quicker. Like it better than the FAL since the kick seems to be less. I get a lot of multikills from guys clumped together as I send in 6—8 shots. I hate the ACOG or holographic on this gun.

PP90M1- Rapid fire and extended mags. I gave up on the silencer since it hurt the range so bad. Slow reload time is a bummer, but still my favorite run and gun gun. I never gave the UMP a chance since I felt the PP90 fired faster making up for the benefits of the ump.

FMG9- I like them OK. Scorpion is my favorite I think. I got those to lvl 10 faster than the FMG9s. I have not seen the range accuracy on the FMG since I rarely ads with them. The sight is obstructive IMHO.

I agree with you that the guns are different, but good. AUG and FAMAS were same gun (I don’t care what you say). Here the guns seem different in ways that are noticeable but not unbalanced. I think it is a good thing.

I too played with the SCAR for a long time since it felt right to me. The bullets seemed to go where I wanted them to even if the ROF was a little slow.

Once I got out of the habit of ADS for everything I won more gun fights. On BO towards the end I was doing much better at just hip firing. In this game I am doing more run and gunning so the hipfiring is coming more naturally. I am sure soon my KDR will reflect this improvement.

I am a big fan of the PP90 with a red dot and silencer. with the silencer it is very accurate without a lot of sway or kick and becuase of the high rate of fire I can put rounds down very quickly and accurately into a target. I do a lot of ADS with quickdraw pro with this weapon. I prefer it to the P90 (GASP!). It just feels smoother to me than the P90. For assault weapons I will have to try the MK14 with rapid fire. I didn't realize it increased the firing speed for a single shot. I have really started using the AK47 alot with kick and a silencer and hip firing. Works well close up and is good for mid range maps. I have yet to see a "long range" map out of the 16. I hope the new DLC will have some maps with longer sight lines to let the AR's shine. So far in MW3 all you really need are SMG's.

Only long range that comes close is Bakaara.

I like Outpost as a long range map.. at this point thats the only map I run AR on

Long range maps try Intersection. AR required ont his map IMHO. MK14 shines. Leave the ACOG at home so you can see the wide open spaces.

Havent even shot the AK nor used quickdraw. Maybe will try it on the SMG class to switch out maching pistols faster.

I have been a teenager in this game, falling in love with each gun as I unlocked it. When I got the Scar it was wow. Then the CM901, G36, ACR, etc. Same with each SMG with a couple exceptions. Same with the shotguns. After now playing them all a fair bit I have fallen back on 2 weapons that I like best. The AK47 and the Striker.

The AK47 just feels so familiar having used it in all games previous. I don't have issues with the irons on it due to that familiarity. I like to run it with kick and silencer using the Quickdraw perk and it has been amazing for me. I tend to win most close and mid range fights with this gun. Ammunition is an issue and with me being a quick reload freak I can't due without SOH so a machine pistol secondary is needed and SOH pro allows a quick switch out.

The Striker is just bloody fun. I can't wait to unlock the damage proficiency for it as the current damage seems it's only issue, but the large mag compensates for this. Shotguns have always been fun but tricky to play with unless you do so with dedication. Switching back and forth makes it an adjustment every time.

I do agree, alot of weapons are reasonably balanced in this game.

You need to use Slight of Hand pro to switch weapons faster... works great with the FMG9s as they take forever to "whip out"

No love for the MP7 or MP9?

Personally the MP7 is my favorite SMG, an MP9 is my favorite machine pistol.

I do like the mp7 also as I used it briefly the first time around.

I keep going back to the M4 as far as AR's go, that and the ACR. The rest are just to switch up the look of things if you ask me. SMGs, it's all pp90 for me as well. Of course all my secondaries are akimbo machine pistols.

Nice to know so many of you are focused on taking out enemy air support with all the akimbo machine pistol using!

thats what my sam turrett is for with my support streaks. UAV/CUAV/Sam turrett is my general support load out.

Haha, yeah, I do have 1 anti-air/anti-jugg class of course. Had to set it up after not even getting a single hit marker on a chopper with my dual machine pistols! Don't know why the hell not either, pinpoint accuracy and range with those things!

I do agree though N8, rather run Sam turret then drag ass all over the place with a launcher.

I run the stinger, especially on Assault classes as it counts for a killstreak and I can call in some of that air support.

pp90m1 has been my main weapon for some days now. It doesn't really come in to it's own until I run it with range and red dot. Red dot is prolly just preference of single attachment, but the range thing makes this a great gun especially in hard core.

you gotta try the mp7 just might be the best smg in the game, the p90 and ppm90 are beast but the mp7 feels as tho it has zero recoil and the sights are clean. Run focus are rapid fire and you will win many of gun fights. Oh and I like the scarL

im with you stream man i run stinger on all classes cuz it counts towards pointstreak, get two kills, shoot down uav and cuav, have on hardline and you got a pred missile

USAS-12--fully auto shotgun, good range, slow ROF full auto compared to AA-12, but single shot i find its better than spas and ksg-12, good irons, but with most shotguns grip and kick are your best friends.

KSG-12--pump action, slow reload, but more one shot kills compared to spas-12

Spas-12--pump action, not the spas from mw2 by a long shot, need to be CLOSE to get a one shot kill, most dissapointing shotgun to me, i think IW tried to make it so balanced they made it the weakest shotgun

AA-12--fully auto, small mag size, need scavenger, grip/kick, good ROF, decent damge, poor range, if you get the range proficiency it may help but that is alot of dedication to a weapon that would be best suited to be a second primary with overkill perk

Striker-semi auto, large magazine, decent range, grip is best attachment, kick is good, focus works well too, the range proficiency helps with a silencer which is actually not bad, damge proficiency is not as good as i hoped, but you do see more one shot/two shot kills compared to 2/3 shot kills,

model 1887-single shot lever action, very slow reload, better kill em with one shot, with this weapons good range, and hope there are not two enemies close together, have used this one the least, so if anyone has a review of this shotgun please post some info, i just get frustrated with the slow ROF

shotgun class-extreme conditioning-for closing the gap on enemies and flanking, SoH is good but i prefer the longer sprint

assassin/hardline-no need to explain, but assassin works better because you need to get close to enemy and its better to stay off radar

stalker-you may ask why not steady aim, i find steady aim does not help that much and the faster movement while ADS with a shotgun is priceless, without stalker, when you ADS you are walking in quicksand with concrete shoes.
