Subject: how to revive xbox wireless controller batteries Fri Aug 10, 2012 6:25 pm
I'm sure most of you have experienced the wonderful moment when you pop a dead controller battery on the charger for it to just flip green saying its charged (when its not).
These batteries have some simple logic built into them so they refuse to charge any further when a handful of criteria are met (like number of charge cycles, voltage thresholds, etc).
You can reset that logic and possibly revive your battery back to life.
First step is you need to fully discharge the battery. You can do so by shorting pins 2 and 5 with something like a led or flashlight bulb. Even if the bulb wont light up leave it on overnight. These batteries can slowly regain voltage over time.
After the battery is fully discharged then take a paperclip or something similar and short pins 1 and 5 for a few seconds then short pins 2 and 6 for a few seconds. This should hopefully reset the batteries logic state and it'll now accept a charge once again.
You may have to repeat the process a few times but I've read about some pretty good success rates.
Here is a video tutioral of what I just explained however they're just using the paperclip to short 2 and 5 until it gets warm. I'd rather use a light of some sort but you make the call. I hope this helps save someone some money.
