NOOB XBOX QUESTION

As new Xbox user, I have a question that I would appreciate some clarification please. While playing, I get a message that says another person playing wants me to game with them. I hit the large silver circle expecting to find an invite but there isn't one. I get the same message shortly after saying the same thing but find no invite. What am I doing wrong? I am not ignoring anyone, just lost, please help.

Ok, here is what is probably happening. some people have beacons set so when they start playing, their friends receive a notification "like Sly Peeler is playing Black Ops 2 and wants friends to play"; an invite says so and so invites to to join...; a game invite disappears when th the game starts. That is why when inviting it is best to send an Xbox live party invite.

Bustin - I struggled with the exact same issues - but SlyPeeler's explanation is spot on.

I think what's happening is your friends have beacons on...if you are actually invited, specfically, to join them, there will be a message in your inbox which you can simply open & accept the invite.

I think I understand the beacon deal. What I am getting is a message across the top middle of my screen saying "so and so" wants you play. Is this the same thing?

I will pay closer attention next time, but I think invites pop on the bottom of the screen.

Sounds dumb as hell, but I have only had this thing a year and a half, I need more time to figure it out.

Bustin, I have had problems like that before as well. If i miss an invite, i just hop into the group. if its full then I leave. If you get an invite or not, most of us 30s don't mind pop ins, in fact we invite them =) its not really a technical fix, but its a fix if you are looking to play with folks. See you in game mate!

That's an invite to a game. If the person who sent it was sitting in a lobby then joined a game, the invite would disappear out of your message box.

Thanks everyone. I will just start popping in and seeing if there is room. If full, I am out. I know most people hate GW and I do not want to force anyone to play it.
