Warframe F2P coming to console

This is something we talked about last year and we all saw it coming. More games have been coming with custom options in the DLC and even Blops2 jumped in with their pieces of flair. Now we have Warframe jumping in as a full F2P model (at least that is how it looks on the surface).

“We hope we can make [free-to-play] attractive for the console audience… Instead of dropping 60 bucks on a six hour game, [a person] might drop a few bucks here and there on our game, which gives some of our players 500 hours of entertainment.”

I was on the fence about F2P because it is a slippery slope and pay-to-win is a definite concern. I will admit that I haven't played a true F2P game. For those who have played them how do you feel about them in general and how do you feel about them coming to console. I love the thought of being able to play a game for free with the option to buy stuff to speed up the level up process. Not to make my character stronger or power up weapons, but to unlock stuff early that wouldn't normally be available.

The F2P model has me sort of split down the middle. Games that force you to pay for lives or hours in game or bar you from progress etc until you pay are crap. Games where you pay for quicker unlocks or additional content that doesn’t give people unfair advantages… that’s cool by me!



Hell, if they did a CoD where you could pay $60 to have all weapons and perks and shit unlocked and available… ORRRR pay for what you use… say a certain fee per gun/perk/etc. I might be down. I’d prob only spend $40 to unlock everything I use and the rest of the junk I don’t like I don’t have to pay for. (but id always just buy the full thing in reality haha)



Regardless I’ll be checking out Warframe if I get a PS4 (very likely).



EDIT: Ok, i did some reading... it looks like a reallllllly fun game! Their version of free to play sounds really good too... pay a little here and there and you're playing a full AAA title.

The gameplay and visuals look epic too. It's being described as Mass Effect, online non-competitive co-ops but you're all ninjas... um... fucking awesome!?

Nuke... you GOTTA see this!  The gameplay (running alpha on PS4) looks incredible!  I can not wait for this!  We can all roll around as a group of fucking SPACE NINJA in a persistent,  ever changing online world... collecting loot and points and shit.  Yes please FTP!

Yeah this one looks pretty badass.  I am tempted to download it on Steam to get a feel for it.  Any time I hear a game mention "co-op" or "open world" I am interested regardless of the genre.  I like multiplayer a lot, but there is something about co-op that is more fun and it is completely rage free.  Co-op in F2P sounds really interesting since I can probably cut some of the grind by spending some money.
