Roxio HD PRO USB capture card

Sunday afternoon I was packing up the truck to take my son to Football camp when I noticed he has a Roxio Capture HD PRO usb sitting on his dresser. I ask him if he used it much and he said just once and lost the CD. With the help of winners I was able to track down the correct software for it. There were different versions, but I finally found the right one. I haven't hooked it up to the DVI or component just yet, but I know it works. This was all on Windows. I plan on trying it on my linux computer soon to see how it makes out.

I am assuming that the best way to record with it is using the roxio software and then using a 3rd party piece of software to edit with?

I guess I am looking at a good starting point and if anyone actually uses this card. I would like to give this capture device a go and just see how it works. Can anyone recommend some editing software for windows? I see there are tons of stuff in the linux world!

I use that Roxio, but I just use the software that came with the device which I think is called Roxio VideoWave. But I'm not a montage maker, so I'm sure there are better editing programs out there. It works fine for simple stuff though.

If you're just starting out, I would just use Windows Movie Maker. Of course that wont help you if your running linux?

Otherwise, if you can get your hands on Sony Vegas, that's probably the only thing you will ever need!

I looked in to the Roxio HD and I thought it looked good. You might want to try the editing software that comes with it before jumping into some of the other editing applications.

I couldn't get Windows movie maker to work worth a damn, the Roxio software works much better than that piece of crap. Maybe its just my computer, it isn't really made for video editing, so it struggles on the big files.
