I figured we could use a help thread for face off game types and maps. I find my class setups and perks to be drastically different with this playlist. Feel free to add your own
WEAPON SELECTION
Class setup should include whatever weapon you are best with at mid to short range. Avoid the sniper rifles
(unless you're one of those annoying quick scopers) and even shotguns in my opinion. Your best bet is something like an SMG or Assault Rifle. Even though the maps are small and tight
(that's what she said) there are A LOT of long lines of sight that put you at a disadvantage with a shotgun. Many times you spawn across the map and the in-between area doesn't provide adequate cover to get to the other side safely. An assault rifle or SMG allows you the added range to move around.
SILENCERS. They are a must since the key to winning these small maps is knowing where your opponent is or will be spawning.
FOCUS. Since these are somewhat close range engagements a majority of the time I recommend focus as your gun proficiency. I run focus exclusively on my ARs anyways and its practically a must. I win soooo many more gun battles with it its almost cheating.
(The M4A1 with focus and silencer is unstoppable) Most players usually run KICK but with close engagements in small maps its almost meaningless. You should only be running kick on the ARC and SCAR anyways. Its a wasted proficiency on other guns. Yes, even the AK47. Its just visual kick.
WATCH THE KILL CAM WHEN YOU DIE...
I cant stress this enough! Not to see how they played or anything like that, but look at their perks! Know what they are using so you aren't wasting your perks and equipment when they are running a counter for it the whole time. maximize! With normal 6v6 or larger its hard to keep up with what everyone is using but when you only have 1 or 2 opponents its a lot easier and pretty important. Examples of how it works below.
RUN MORE THAN 1 CUSTOM CLASS SPECIFICALLY FOR FACE OFF...
I like to have at least 2 custom classes geared towards face off, mainly for equipment, killstreaks and perks. After my first death or two I know which one to stick with based off of watching the kill cam.
-I
always run RECON PRO and flash/concussion grenades. On a small map this combo is a MUST. If you aren't running it you are short changing yourself and your teammate big time! Nothing better than starting a match, tossing a nade and seeing exactly where they are running or camping. Best part is that they don't usually realize that you know exactly where they are. Small maps you almost always "tag" at least one of them when you toss out a frag. Also if you lose a gun battle and get atleast 1 bullet into them then they are lit up for your teammate to finish off easily.
-PORTABLE RADAR. If you are a portable radar type player then have another class ready to go with that equipped. A majority of 1v1/2v2 players seem to run assassin so usually this is meaningless. It will cover about 1/3 of the map so if you notice the other team not running assassin then swap to this class and enjoy the benefits. U can then use a frag to check areas like you would a concussion grenade.
-ASSASSIN. This is another must! Again, knowing where they are on a small map is the key. You may be in range of a portable radar and not even know it. Again, WATCH THE KILL CAM to see their equipment. Also, this allows you to run a secondary weapon and not need a launcher for UAVs and counter UAVs which are very common. For choppers just swap to a class with blindeye if it's becoming a problem or a class with a launcher of course. Assassin pro also rids you of that eye catching highlighter name over your player when someone aims down the sights and sweeps the map (which I do quite often). If players are running marksman then this is that much more important.
-DEAD SILENCE/SITREP PRO. Dead silence is a must in my opinion. These gametypes have a camping feel, but it's still fast paced at the same time. These maps are loud and sound is better than a radar to me and my turtle beaches. I love to sound whore and these gametypes are perfect for it. Also, SITREP PRO now counters dead silence so just remember that you arent a ninja when they are running sitrep PRO. If you find yourself dying from claymores and bouncing bettys a lot then swap to sitrep pro. As soon as they set on it will show up to you and you know where they are on the map just from that.
DEATHSTREAKS
A lot of the time we don't really cosider these too much but REVENGE is great. Tells you where at least half the opposing team is after 3 deaths. 2 if you're running hardline. If you go with something like MARTYRDOM, the last second nade could get you the kill or atleast a hit marker to show your teammate where he is (if you are running RECON)
KILLSTREAKS
I tend to just run specialist. putting in a lot of work for a high killstreak on assault or support is a waste when something like a stealth bomber will only get you 2 kills AT MOST. UAVs and CUAVs usually don't work since the majority of players run assassin. Things that may be worth it are juggernauts. Most airborne killstreaks are quickly countered by blindeye after the first death. Specialist gets you an advantage all game long. I like to run hardline and assassin as my first perk. With recon I get assist points very frequently. If I die in a gunbattle usually recon lights them up and my teammate gets an easy kill. Then I get assassin when I respawn.
NAVIGATING THE MAP
-Like many other maps, avoid hotspot areas. Watch these from the outside and let the other team make the mistake of being at a disadvantage. Also, learn the spot of the map where the other players seem to always run to. Its where they are comfortable and you know they will eventually try to get back there.
-Stay to the outside of the map as much as possible. This minimizes your chances of getting flanked or spawned behind.
-Know where your teammate is and try to stay near them for 2 reasons. First is to help with the double team ofcourse by finishing their kills and working together. The other is to manipulate their spawns in a way. If you're on one corner of the map then most likely they will spawn on the other corner.
-Watch the killfeed during kill confirmed. When you see 2 dead it's safer to run out in the open to grab the tags. Avoid the instant grab if its out in the open and at a distance. Players tend to "camp tags". Don't give them the easy 2 tag jump.
These work for me. Feel free to add your own. Enjoy...
